Tim Holtz Inspired

I finally got into my studio today. I've had such low mojo for the past month, but I forced myself to work on something today. I've found that the longer I stay out of the studio, the harder it is to create something. I had two reasons for this working on this project...one was a challenge for my LSS club to use Ranger alcohol inks and the other was a challenge I saw on a new challenge blog called Simon Says Stamp and Show. SSS&S is having an "all things Tim Holtz Challenge" this week. I created this Tim inspired card for both challenges.

I don't have many colors of alcohol inks (I have only 8!), so was limited in my color palette. I used sunset orange, meadow, and lettuce inks for the technique. The technique challenge at my LSS was to use alcohol inks on a transparency. So, I sponged the ink onto the transparency, then used rubbing alcohol to rub OFF the ink in a "window" so that my stamped image could show through. I've seen this technique before, but have never tried it. I love how it turned out.

I stamped the image onto Cosmo Cricket paper with black Memento ink. I found that the Tombow vellum adhesive is AMAZING for attaching the transparency to the paper. I could not see the adhesive! (Then again, my eyes are getting on in years...) I embossed the background of the cardstock with Cuttlebug clockworks folder. This is not one of Tim's folders, but it's very much in his style what with the gears and all.

To really "Tim Holtz" it up, I cut flowers out of grungepaper with Tim's tattered florals die. I sponged the flowers with distress ink to match the alcohol inks. I used spiced marmalade, faded jeans, and shabby shutters. I stamped some images onto the flowers with black ink. I used some of the alcohol ink to color the clear Maya Road pins. What's a vintage card without pins?!

I used the same ink on transparency technique for the inside of the card.

I love how the weathered wood look of the Cosmo Cricket paper shows through the ink. Hope this is "Tim Holtzy" enough for the challenges!

  11. Great job on this, Gloria:)

I haven't tried this technique, but you have inspired me. I can't wait to have time to "play" again. Have family visiting for the next few weeks, so I'm not sure how much "play" time I'll have...glad to see you're back in your crafting room!
