Enjoy the Journey

Do you ever make a card, then keep looking at it and thinking, "Card, you're just not all you can be"? I originally made this card for the Graphic45 Blog in July. I liked it. Sent it off to the DT coordinator. But...kept looking at it and thinking it could be better.

The papers are Graphic45 Transatlantique. I used a Tattered Angels chipboard compass rose, which I sprayed with mist and rubbed with distress inks.

Check out the cork! It's a real cork! I found a package of them at Michael's in the floral department. I cut the cork in half and glued it to the card!

Anyway, I pulled the card apart and redesigned it for a card class, and this is how it turned out:

I replaced the chipboard piece with a doily, which I misted and stamped. And also with a flourish cut from chipboard, using a Tim Holtz die. I inked up the chipboard, then sprayed it with mist.

I think the new card has more visual interest and like the multiple layers.

I kept the Maya Road bingo number and the cork.

All in all, I like the second try better. A true "journey" in cardmaking!

Here is a what the inside looks like. I used a Tim Holtz stamp.

This is not the first time I've ripped a card apart and tried to make it better. Sometimes it works, sometimes...not so much!

  3. Yes - the second card is so much more card and interesting. As cool as the chipboard compass rose is, it overpowered the card with sort of a flat effect. This new design has many items which draw the eye to various aspects of the card instead of stopping short. Great ideas. Love the cork!

I have never ripped a card apart and put it back together before, but now I have some hope for some old rotten things Pam made me do at 365... lol
