Vintage Cameo Card

I have a card today that is a reject from Northridge Publishing...the folks who put out Scrapbook Trends, Cards, and so forth. They had a call for a vintage book and I submitted some cards...and they did not take any of them. This one does not fit anything else I have going on, so I'm showing it to you on the blog.

I confess that I always feel grumpy when I make projects specifically for a publication call and then the project does not get picked up by the magazine. I really don't have time to make "rejects," you know what I mean?! Humph!

Anyway, I created this card with Graphic45 Steampunk paper, Spellbinders die templates, and some Maya Road chipboard. I love the technique for making the cameo! Since Northridge did not want it, I'll share the technique with you. (Ok, that sounded bitter...)

To create the background for the cameo, I cut and embossed some doily shapes out of cardstock (S4-345 Picot Edge Circles, S5-059 Ironwork Motifs). I sprayed the die cut shapes with mist to give them an aged look.

To create the cameo, I used the Maya  Road chipboard cameo set. For the bottom layer, I inked the chipboard with brown pigment ink, then added a few layers of clear embossing powder. For the oval layer, I covered the chipboard shape with paper and "aged" it with ink and sanded the edges. For the cameo face, I inked the chipboard with pigment ink and again added a few layers of clear embossing powder. I allowed the embossing to have some imperfections on the surface to give the cameo an aged look. Once the layers were completed, I glued them together to form a cameo.

To finish the card I added some lace, pins, and vintage flowers.

  8. Hey, what do they know! LOL! Not always what we think are the best are chosen, either. Different strokes for different folks you know....Thanks for sharing your cameo frame idea. I have dozens of epoxy cameos and far fewer frames! This will be CASed!

  10. This is a great card! But what I may think they mean by vintage, they may have an entirely different image or look in mind. One or two words do not always call up the same things in everyone's mind and everyone's taste is different, that's what makes the world go round! We just have to put on a "Happy Face" and soon, life will be better than day, too! Thanks for all your wondrful inspiration.
