Whitewashed Christmas Canvas - Hanpton Art

Good morning, Bloggers. It is my day on the Hampton Art Blog. I have created a 10 x 6 inch canvas to share with you. The canvas is a canvas board, rather than a stretched canvas. That means it is rigid chipboard (or MDF) with canvas glued over the top. I primed the canvas with gesso before starting.

I created this whitewashed piece of Christmas home decor using Graphic 45 The Twelve Days of Christmas papers and various Hampton Art stamps. I started out by using gel medium to attach the background papers to the canvas board. I then used white distress paint to whitewash the papers. The distress paint is more opaque than regular acrylic paint, allowing the paper to show through the white paint.

For the postcard title, I swiped a bit of regular white acrylic paint over the top portion of the canvas. I stamped the postcard image (Hampton Art/Graphic 45 Christmas Emporium) with red mixed media ink.  I used a heat tool to dry the ink, and then I stamped the postage images with brown dye ink. (Hampton Art/Art Warehouse Believe in Christmas).

The flowers and chipboard items are from the Graphic 45 The Twelve Days of Christmas Collection. I painted the cardstock flowers and the chipboard with the white distress paint. I wiped most of it off the chipboard, so that the colors would be a bit more intense.

I painted the cardstock banners with the distress paint also. Once the paint was dry, I stamped over the paper with brown dye ink (Hampton Art/Graphic 45 Christmas Emporium and Nutcracker Sweet).  I added a few floral items from my stash as well as the glitter button in the center of the flower. I tucked some chipboard pieces under the edges of the flower. Next, I stamped some music notes onto the bottom edge of the canvas with brown ink (Hampton Art/Art Warehouse Holiday Dreams and Wishes).

I stamped a sentiment onto the chipboard tag (Hampton Art/Art Warehouse Holiday Dreams and Wishes) with brown ink.

The white with touches of twine and the rustic distressing make this a perfect vintage holiday decor piece. I hope you are inspired to create some Christmas decor this week!
