Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge #8

I am sharing my project for Challenge #8 at the Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge Blog! Remember, you have two weeks to play in the new challenge! Challenge #8 closes June 1st at midnight PT.

Challenge #8 Show us Some Metal or Glass
Do you hoard gears, pins, brads, eyelets, frames, and other metal do-dads? Do you have a thing for tiny light bulbs and glass vials? Do junk drawers make you giddy? Do you hang out in office supply stores so you can score funky paperclips? Do bottle caps make you swoon? Dig through your hoard to find something metal or glass (or both) and make a project to share!

The sponsors this month are Really Reasonable Ribbon and Sin City Stamps. I created a mixed media-style card.

I love the work of Finnabair (Anna) who does amazing work for Prima. I was watching one of her videos, and I totally admire the way she has the guts to spray her projects after they are all put together. So, I tried it. With dubious results, but....nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Normally I spray each element, and then assemble the project. This time...I put it all together and sprayed the whole deal. ACK! Scary!

I stamped one of the Sin City watch stamps onto cardstock and trimmed it out. It is attached to the card with some foam tape and glue. I added foam tape to the back, but the tape would not stick to the jute and lace. {sigh} I added a scrap of cardstock to the sticky foam tape, and then I glued that to the jute with Fabri-tac. Ta da! (That jute ribbon from RRR has been in the hoard for about a year! I am finally using it!)

The flowers are out of my hoard...from Petaloo. And the light bulb is from SkyBluePink, which is an online "junk shop" that I adore!

I added some lace from the RRR May Ribbon club over the jute ribbon. So nice! I added a gear and another flower to this corner. Mostly to cover up a boo-boo.

Look at the butterfly! I stamped the Sin City image twice, once directly onto the card and again on scrap cardstock. I cut out the cardstock image with sharp scissors and glued it over the first image. I glued tiny watch parts to the body of the butterfly.

I stamped the birthday greeting on the inside of the card. The stamp is also from Sin City Stamps.

Once I had the card all put together, is just seemed to be missing something. So I sprayed it with a few different spray mists. For the most part it worked great. The trick is to hold the mister very close to the project. However, my black mist sort of...pfffttttt-ed and gave me a spray that I was not 100% happy with. But, that happens.

I hope you had fun today. Go make a mess with your mists and some metal and glass. Join the challenge!

Challenge Rules are HERE. Make sure you LINK your project up using the Link Tool on the Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge Blog. PLEASE DO NOT LINK YOUR PROJECT TO MY SCRAPS OF LIFE BLOG! (Yes, that was shouting, sorry.)

  1. This is such an "artsy" project, Gloria. I love the focal image...looks really old and awesome. Also love the tiny little gears on the butterfly body, the lightbulb...it all just works together so beautifully. One of my favorites!

  2. Gloria, your card is gorgeous. We never like our own work when a mist goes pffft, but I have to say, I love your pffft of mist. The whole thing looks absolutely amazing. I hope to pfft my spray the same way on my next card. And I love the gears for the butterfly body. I am so inspired by everyone's ideas for those butterflies. TFS

  11. Could there be a more beautiful, feminine, steam-punkish card? You have just about every texture imaginable on this work of art, and it all plays together seamlessly. I learn so very much about what holds the elements of a composition together, every time I see one of your fabulous cards.

I've been MIA for a while when it comes to commenting, and I hope that this venture is suiting your more restrictive lifestyle these days. It's been clear from the get-go, that a need for high art challenges were out there, and you have certainly met that need in a fabulous way. I hope your activities are creating the good health and comfort that they are providing for the rest of us. Thanks again for bringing your enormous talent and inspiration to us again.

  12. That is stunning - such glorious layers of splatter in the background, giving such depth, fab rustic texture from the frayed burlap, and beautiful stamped images - love, love this card!

  13. I too love Finnabair and have been pushing the envelope with spraying all over instead of in parts. Your card turned out beautiful and you took great care in every detail. Pleasure to see and enjoy.
