Heartfelt Creations Wednesday - It's a Blue, blue Christmas!

Welcome to another Heartfelt Creations Wednesday! I am working with the July Release Sparkling Poinsettia Collection. Once I have all the papers, stamps, and dies on my table, I just go to town making things. {grin}

I decided on a blue Christmas this week. Last week I gave you pink, but this week I wanted to give you something blue. Another technique that I have been wanting to try is to watercolor onto old book paper. There is nothing more vintage than an old book (to me, anyway), so I broke out my stash of old books and created some blue poinsettias!

You can find old books at yard sales, flea markets, and your local library. Most libraries have a store where you can buy old or damaged books for a few cents. I purchased a few books for 25 cents each and I used the pages for my projects. I buy old books due to the paper being more "weathered" than a newer book. As a book lover, I had to get over the upset I felt over tearing a book, but I made myself feel better by purchasing old books about boring topics. Then, when I rip them up, I don't feel so bad.

To make this top-fold 5" x 6 3/4" card, start by trimming two pieces of blue calypso cardstock to 5" x 6 3/4". Score one piece of cardstock at 1/2" from the top edge. Attach the second piece of cardstock to the 1/2" tab. Trim black cardstock to 4/7" x 6 5/8" and attach to the card front.

Emboss ivory cardstock with the Holly Ribbons embossing folder and trim cardstock to 4 3/4" x 6 1/2". Rub embossed surface lightly with Peacock Feathers and Old Paper distress ink. Sponge the edges with Vintage Photo distress ink. Attach the embossed panel to the card front. Glue a white doily to the upper left quadrant of the card front. Arrange a piece of cheese cloth in the center of the card, approximately 3" from the top edge and glue in place. Glue loops of sparkling twine to the top half of the card.

Stamp the flower and leaves from the Large Sparkling Poinsettia Cling Stamp Set onto old book paper with black ink. Stamp the leaves a second time. Use distress inks to watercolor the flower and leaves with distress inks. Use the Large Sparkling Poinsettia Die to cut out the flower and the leaves. Stamp the Sparkling Poinsettia Cling Stamp Set twice onto old book paper with black ink. Watercolor the flowers with distress inks. Use the Sparkling Poinsettia Die to cut out the flowers. Shape the flowers and leaves.

Create three layered poinsettias, small, medium, and large. Glue the flowers and leaves to the card front, making sure to arrange the cheese cloth and sparkling twine around the edges of the flowers. Glue sequins to the card front in a random pattern.

Decorate the inside of the card by trimming black cardstock to 4 7/8" x 6 1/4" and attaching it to the inside panel. Trim ivory cardstock to 4 3/4" x 6". Stamp the sentiment stamp from the Joy to the World Cling Stamp Set on the top of the panel with black ink. Stamp the holly swirl from the Joy to the World Cling Stamp Set in the bottom left corner of the cardstock with Peacock Feathers distress ink. Sponge the edges of the panel with Vintage Photo ink and attach the panel to the inside of the card.
