Cute Bats?! Yes, Very Cute!

Welcome to the Conie Fong Art and Design October Facebook Challenge! The challenge this month is to use a Conie Fong image and the theme - Make it Spook-tacular! (As always, the challenges are Anything Goes, but you get an extra point for using the theme!)
The image I used this month is this adorable image called Bats Friends. (Which is a play on "Best Friends," get it?!) These little bats are just so cute. And who would ever think bats are cute?!

I did something new for me...I colored a DARK background for my image! I have never done that before. It was SCARY! And it took me three tries!
I printed the image slightly smaller than 5 1/2" onto white cardstock. Then, using Copic markers (B39, B37, B26, B24, B21, and BV29) I colored the background. I wanted to have a soft glow around the moon, getting darker as you move away from the moon. It was really hard for me to lay down all the DARK color, let me tell you!

As you can see, I colored the background first, just in case I made a mess. I did make a mess my first try. Then I tried pencils, but that was worse, so I came back to Copics and tried HARDER. Sadly, the camera picked up my maker strokes. It is not as bad in real life, but I do need to blend better next time...if there IS a next time!
After the background dried, I colored the rest of the image. The hardest part was the little bats. I really struggled with those guys, too! But in the end, I think they are just so funny and cute!
Since my image is 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" I made an 8" x 8" card using some paper from my stash. I found that cute jack-o-lantern charm in my bin of goodies, too. He was perfect for my card!

Please play along in the Conie Fong FaceBook challenge. If you don't have a Conie Fong image, you can download one for free once you join the Facebook Group! Click HERE for that.
