Really Reasonable Ribbon November Blog Hop

Welcome to the Really Reasonable Ribbon November Blog HopYou should be coming to my blog from the Really Reasonable Ribbon Blog. (For the complete blog list, scroll to the bottom of the post.) After visiting me, hop over to the spectacular Ginny's Blog next!

At the end of the hop, comment on the RRR Blog post, answering the question listed, for a chance to win the November Ribbon Club Assortment shown below. (The Design Team appreciates your comments, too!)

The November Ribbon Club Assortment is called Holiday Shimmer Assortment. I love this soft and pretty assortment! I have long wanted to have a second Christmas tree, all decorated in these shades, with a Victorian feel. However, the spirit is willing but the flesh is worn out! So, once again this year I will have just my standard "early American" style tree.
My project for this month is this cute flip-fold mini using lots of pastel papers. I purchased an A4 pad of the Prima Santa Baby paper a few weeks ago, and it was perfect for this mini. However, there is not enough variety in the prints in the pad (to suit my taste), so I burgled my stash for other papers to complete this album. I found some papers from 2005 in my stash! I mean, really, who does that?!!

This is my second non-traditional Christmas mini for this year. (See the other one HERE.)
If you have followed me for any length of time you may remember my Valentine flip album (HERE) or my patriotic flip album (HERE). The patriotic album has a video walk through of both albums AND a tutorial (watch to the end for the tutorial) and also a printable project sheet (HERE).

For this version, I simply redesigned those albums with chipboard covers and spines. The closure is the Light Pink Organza with Satin Center tied in a simple bow. This is such a lovely, delicate ribbon.
I created a ribbon and flower cluster on the front of the mini. I used Light Pink Organza with Satin CenterLavender Organza with Satin Center, and Garden Rose Satin with Silver Metallic Edge ribbons. I also used some flowers and other sparkly bits. I adore these soft colors for the holidays.

Here is a little tutorial to show you how to make the base of the book.
Use this diagram to see how to cut your chipboard pieces.

Cut two pieces of chipboard to 6" x 6" for the front and center covers. Cut one piece of chipboard to 6" x 5 3/4" for the right cover (this gets folded into the center). Cut two pieces of chipboard to 6" x 3/4" for the two spines.
Splice two pieces of white cardstock together to make a piece approximately 8" tall by 22 inches wide. Attach the chipboard to the cardstock as shown in the diagram above. Allow for 1/8" gutters on each side of the little spine pieces.

Wrap the chipboard and gently score and fold the gutters.
We are not creating hinges for this mini, so trim white cardstock to cover the spine areas and gently score and fold at the gutters.
Attach a 12" piece of ribbon to the inside front cover. The second 12" piece is attached just to the left of the second spine, when the book is folded. (See photos below.)

The fold-out portions of the album are attached to the right of the first spine and to the left of the second spine. I trimmed white cardstock to 5 7/8" tall, and in a variety of widths with scored flaps and pockets. You are free to use your own imagination on how to fill  your little book. (For a walk-through of my book, see the video below.)
I scored 1/2" tabs to attach all the fold out sections. This way I didn't need to figure out any sort of hinge system.
Fold the right cover in toward the center, then fold the top cover over to create this folded mini. You can see where to attach the ribbon as a closure. There will be a left-hand spine and a right-hand spine.
Cover the front and back covers, as well as both spines with paper. Cut the paper for the front and back covers to 5 7/8" x 5 7/8" and for the spines 5 7/8" x 5/8".

I loved this sweet Santa image from the Prima Santa Baby paper, so wanted him to be the cover boy! I jazzed up the cover with ribbons and flowers, plus some enamel dots.
The back is plain, but the paper is so very pretty!
When you open the front cover, there is a pocket for a few 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" cards, or some tags. I use a bit of ribbon and an ephemera card for a tuck spot on the pocket.

The right flap is another of the chipboard covers. The ephemera card is also a flap that opens up. That pretty card is from Stamperia Pink Christmas. The book continues to have a mash up of retro and vintage Christmas colors and images.
When you open the center cover, you can see a waterfall element on the back of that chipboard cover (the far right panel). The center panel contains all the flip-outs. The spines give you a 3/4" space to hold all your beautiful paper!

I added some ribbon elements throughout the book as tuck spots and banners.
The center flap opens to reveal a pocket. This pocket can also hold a 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" card or some tags. Again, I have used some ribbon for tuck spots.
The center flap opens to the left, revealing another flip panel.

Look at that waterfall! I kept the colors to both pale and dark pastels, using pinks, blues, mint green, and some lavender. The waterfall element holds 4"
 x 5" photos.

The left flap opens one more time (accordion fold), the middle flap also opens. So much space for photos.
Open the flap on the left to reveal a side pocket.
The center opens up to reveal a space for a large photo or journaling.
The center piece opens to the right, to reveal the inside of the back cover (the center piece of chipboard). There is a pocket for a 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" card. I used some White Shimmer Satin to decorate the pocket.
The right flap opens as well, with a heart-shaped tuck spot.
