365 Cards Day 149 - Try a Technique

The challenge for today at 365 Cards is to try a technique, and the technique you are to try is sponging. This one was right up my alley (Pam throws me a bone now and again!). I love Tim Holtz inks and techniques so I decided to try some of his ideas on my card.

I created a card from Bazzill cardstock and Basic Grey paper (Mellow and Recess). Then I decided to use a shipping tag for my sponge technique. I have a boat load of these tags that I bought at the office supply store. The funky mesh ribbon was in one of my LSS club kits a few months ago. I had put it aside as it's not something I am attracted to, but it turned out to be perfect for this card!

First I misted some inks onto a craft mat and rubbed the tag into the ink, then I "smooshed" the ink around with a damp sponge. After I dried the tag, I used a sponge to rub more ink onto the edges, plus I sponged a darker color of orange onto the torn edge. Once everything was dry, I stamped my image onto the tag with some of the same ink I used for my sponge technique, to give it a softer feel. I think I used 2 oranges, 2 greens, 1 yellow, 2 browns to make this tag. Yeah, lots of ink! I also matted the tag with more Bazzill cardstock. The sentiment is a Stampin' Up rub-on.

Make sure you visit the 365 Cards blog to see who the "appreciated reader" is for today!
