Gettin' Trendy with WorldWin Cardstock!

Hello, Blogger Buddies! One of the big trends in card making right now is Clean and Simple cards. That is soooo not my style. Not.at.all! But, I decided to channel my very dear friend Jacquie from the What Did I Do Today? Blog. She is one of my local peeps and she has a huge talent for Clean and Simple cards, with the  added gift of using the most AMAZING techniques! I stink at CAS cards, but for my birthday, Jacquie gave me a set of "Happy dies" and I finally pulled them out and decided to use them (my birthday was in February) to give CAS a try.

I created this card for the WorldWin Papers Blog and it is my version of CAS (it still has several layers). I made a top-fold card from WorldWin ColorMates Smooth and Silky Gold cardstock. I embossed a piece of Smooth and Silky Fresh Cream cardstock with a splatter embossing folder. I then rubbed some ink over the raised areas. (I guess that's three layers so far...or four...)

I used black dye ink to stamp "birthday" at the bottom edge of the embossed panel. Then, I cut "happy" from Smooth and Silky Black cardstock and attached the die cut shape to the card. I had to trim the left edge of the shape as it is 7 inches long and the card is only 4 1/4 inches. I added some sequins for that extra trendy look.

I stayed true to myself and added some "splash" to the inside of the card as well. I hope that I did a passable job at CAS. {wink}

JUNE STAMP RELEASE!!!

have been waiting for this moment for a while! This is my first stamp release with Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps! My new stamp set is part of their June 2014 Release! I am so indebted to Korin at SnSS for her willingness to work with me to get my clear stamp designs into your hands!

Now, here it is.....

Birthday Word Art! This is a 6 x 8-inch set with 13 large sentiments! This stamp set is my baby! I really love word art and typography, and I hope you all love it, too!

Plus, it is so EASY to find the stamps! Simply visit the Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps online store, click on the Clear Stamps tab, click on "By Designer" from the drop-down list, and then click on "Gloria Stengel." Any stamps or dies that I have designed will pop up! (This feature is not yet operational.)

Looky! I get giddy every time I see this! Yay me! I know, it is the little things for me. {grin}

SnSS sent me my "designer's sample" set of stamps and I got busy playing with them. Let me tell you, these guys stamp up BEAUTIFULLY!

I love combining feminine and masculine elements, so I paired this curly font with some typewriter text to create this sentiment. It is perfect for a "romantic" birthday card. I stamped with black dye ink onto off-white cardstock. Yum!

I created a layered 5 x 5-inch card with some flowers and lacy die cut shapes. I did not have any blue flowers to match the paper, so I sprayed a few cream flowers with mists. They are not the correct shade, but let's roll with it!

This card is quite lumpy and will need to be mailed in a box or padded envelope. I love it when the card is part of the gift!

Here is the inside. Super lumpy! I created a few extra sentiments in the curly font so that you could mix and match. I added a gift card holder to the inside of the card, and more flowers. The inside could be a card front!

I wanted to create a stamp set that was very versatile. Here is a more masculine card that I made. This card is also a nod to my very dear friend Sandy...who is rarely on time for anything. {wink}

What a great way to send a belated birthday card! There is no hiding the fact that your card is late...but how amazing to get this card in the mail!

I found some twill ribbon and a wood button in my stash to make the perfect manly accents. Now bows or flowers here!

This card is not too lumpy. It still has a lot of dimension to it, but honestly, people are worth a bit of expense and fuss on their birthdays, right?!

And for the inside! I love this silly phrase. I had to include it in my stamp set!

I think this stamp set is also good for making cards for teens and younger children. (Wait until you see what some of the SnSS design team created!)

I added the number strip stamp thinking that you could get a lot of use out of it for birthdays, and for other mixed media projects. I will share some fun uses of that particular stamp another time. Bottom line...I love the number strip!

I stamped directly onto printed paper with brown dye ink. Look at how great the image stamped! Woot!

And a peeky at the inside. I created a few of these general sayings in a larger size than you normally see them. I wanted you to be able to use them for the front or the inside of your cards. A few if the stamps also fit into a circle punch or die, so you can use them for gift tags!

I hope you have time to see what the SnSS design team has done with the stamps. Also, make sure to see what other stamps and dies are in the NEW release!

Hang on, before you go...

The Rubber Cafe Guest DT - Let's Golf!

Good morning! I sure had fun as the June Guest Designer for The Rubber Cafe Blog! This is my last post, but I hope they invite me back again! I have one more card to share, using the June Creative Cafe Kit, Let's Hear it for the Boys

I created a "blank" card that is perfect for a birthday card or for Father's Day, or any other "manly" occasion.

Make a 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 inch, top fold card from the light gray cardstock. Trim the decorative paper from the Echo Park Getaway 6 x 6 pad (from the kit) to 5 3/8 x 4 1/8 inches, set aside.

Trim dark gray cardstock to 5 1/4 x 4 inches and emboss with an embossing folder. Tear the paper at an angle as shown. Rub the surface and edges of the paper with black ink and attach it to the decorative paper.

Wrap the gray seam binding (from the kit) around the top of the embossed panel and attach the panel to the card front. Add a decorative brad to the center of the bow.

Stamp the golf bag onto light gray cardstock with black ink. Using black spray mist, splatter some dots of mist over the top of the stamped image. Trim the image to size and rub the edges with black ink. Attach the image to the left side of the card with foam tape.

Thanks for joining me today!

Today, join Jan Marie Ennenga, Karen Zueger, and me as we strut our stuff! For a full designer list, see the end of the post.

Now, for the challenge!

Challenge #10 Spray It! Ink It! Paint It! Smear It! Emboss It!
Show us your inner mixed media diva! Use spray mists, inks, paints, modeling paste, embossing powder, pastels, chalk, and whatever messy media you can find! Let's dig into that hoard, pull out some of that "messy stuff," and use it up! There is a mess-maker hiding in all of you! Let her/him out to play!

I love to play with my messy stuff! I don't do it as often as I wish, because I hate cleaning up the mess when I'm finished! I created a 12 x 12 inch home decor piece, with a scripture focal point. I love how this turned out!

This was the first time that I tried the "gesso" technique that I learned from Arlene at Butterfly Kisses. I love the blue and white, with pops of black.

My favorite part is the modeling paste "doily"!

I bet you want to know how I created this project! {grin} I will tell you, before we get started, that this project has approximately 8 layers! And there is A LOT of dry-time! So be patient!

To start, I used WorldWin Papers Tube cardstock in black. The Tube cardstock has a matte finish that is similar to chalkboard paper, and it is also a heavy weight cardstock. I coated the paper with a thin layer of white gesso.

Once the paper is covered with gesso, I allowed it to dry. Then, I added Distress Stains and Paints in blue and silver, with white to tone down any colors that got too bold. I dabbed the ink and paint on, and then spread it with a foam brush. However, during the process, the Silver Distress paint dabber popped off and I spilled an entire bottle of paint on the center of the project! I blotted it up, spread it around, and made the most of it! It gave a unique, shimmery look to the paper.

Once the paint and ink was dry, I sprayed the paper with a few mists in clear and white, just to add some sparkle. The piece is messy and blotchy and perfect!

I allowed the piece to dry overnight. Then, using Liquitex Modeling Paste, I spread paste in some areas, using the StencilGirl Stitch A Doily stencil as a mask. I used Distress Stain with the StencilGirl River Rocks stencil to add some "bubbles."

I allowed everything to dry completely.

While I was waiting for the base page to dry, I used some of my die cut templates to cut various shapes from WorldWin Crafty Board Heavy Weight Chipboard. (Purchase HERE.) I painted all of the chipboard items, plus a few metal items with white gesso. I allowed everything to dry.

The next step was to attach the base page to a 12 x 12 inch piece of the WorldWin heavy weight chipboard to give the project stability and make it easy to frame or place into a shadow box. I then stamped some text and other images randomly with Staz-On Jet Black ink.

I then began to glue the chipboard and metal elements onto the the base page. I added some white and cream paper flowers.

Once I had the layout the way I wanted it, I sprayed with various mists in blue, white, and clear. I allowed some of the ink to pool and then drip down the page. In some areas I used a baby wipe to blot off some of the ink.

Once the ink was dry, I added a bit more stamping and stenciling, plus a few more elements, such as glass light bulbs. I sprayed again in a few areas, and basically fussed until I got the look I wanted.

For the focal point, I trimmed a doily shape from WorldWin ColorMates Smooth and Silky Black cardstock. I stamped the sentiment onto Smooth and Silky White cardstock with black ink, then trimmed it out with a circle die template. I rubbed some blue ink on the edges of the sentiment circle.

I attached the doily and sentiment to the page with foam tape. I added a few blue flowers, that I pained with gesso, to get a bit of a "reverse effect."

I continued to add bits here and there, like the black gem for the bird's eye. If I needed to add more spray, I covered the sentiment with a piece of paper to keep it "clean."

I love seeing the stamped text image peeking out, and all the texture of the modeling paste, plus the metal and chip items!

I added a bit more texture with some white paint and the River Rock stencil. I am so impressed with how well the WorldWin Tube cardstock accepted all the wet media! The paper did NOT buckle or pucker! Likewise, the WorldWin Chipboard worked perfectly.

I hope  you enjoyed this mixed media lesson! Thanks for visiting the blog hop! Check the list below to visit the rest of the designers!

The Rubber Cafe Guest DT - Let's Hear it for the Boys!

Good morning! I am so happy to be the June Guest Designer for The Rubber Cafe! I love the NEW June Creative Cafe Kit, Let's Hear it for the Boys! For this project I used the truck from the Just Men stamp set (see below).

To create this card, make a 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 inch, top fold card from red cardstock. Trim the Echo Part Getaway designer paper to 5 3/8 x 4 1/8 inches and attach it to the card front.

Use a banner die cut template (or trace a paper template) to cut three banner shapes (the largest banner is approximately  4 x 3 1/8 inches). Cut one banner each from red, white, and kraft cardstock. (Note: the kraft cardstock is not included in the kit.) Stamp the truck image onto the kraft cardstock and color as desired. Stamp the sentiment onto the top of the craft banner with black dye ink.

Stack the banners on top of each other as shown. Wrap white seam binding around the bottom edge of the banners and secure at the back with tape. Place an Echo Park Getaway decorative brad through the seam binding and the cardstock on the lower right edge of the banner stack.

Using foam tape, attach the banner stack to the front of the card, approximately 5/8 inches from the top.

Line the inside of the card with either white or kraft cardstock. And you are finished!
