Heartfelt Creations Wednesday - Patchwork Heart

Welcome to another Heartfelt Creations Wednesday! I wanted to give you a Valentine project today. I am still working mainly with the January Release Birds and Blooms Collection, but I figured I could give it a Valentine slant!

I have noticed that patchwork is making a come-back in the paper craft world. I have been around long enough to have seen this trend come and go a few times now. I decided to give it a shabby chic twist.

To make this card, create a 6" x 6" top-fold card by trimming gray cardstock to 12" x 6" and scoring at 6" on the long side. Trim Birds and Blooms pink paper to 5 7/8" x 5 7/8". Distress the edges and attach the pink panel to the card front.

Trim white cardstock to 5 1/8" x 5 1/8" and attach to the center of the card front. Trim gray cardstock to 5" x 5" and attach to the white panel.

Trim nine (9) squares of Birds and Blooms paper to 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" and distress the edges. Attach the squares to the gray panel in three rows of three squares each.

Use the Spellbinders Lace Hearts die template to trim a lacy heart from white cardstock. Attach the heart to the center of the card front with foam adhesive.

Stamp the flowers from the Birds and Blooms Cling Stamp Set onto white cardstock with rhubarb stalk ink. Color the flowers with distress inks. Use the Leafy Branch die to cut out the flowers. Shape them and set aside. Stamp the leaves from the Leafy Branch Cling Stamp set onto white cardstock with brown ink. Color the leaves with alcohol markers and distress stains. Use the Leafy Branch die to cut out the leaves. Shape the leaves and set aside. Stamp the leaves from the Fluffy Birdies Cling Stamp Set onto white cardstock with brown ink. Color the leaves with distress inks. Cut out the leaves with the Birds and Blooms die, shape, and set aside. Stamp the long branch from the Leafy Branch Cling Stamp Set twice onto white cardstock with brown ink. Color the branches with alcohol markers. Use the Leafy Branch die to cut out the branches. Stamp the Vintage Morning Background image onto white cardstock with rhubarb stalk ink. Color the flowers with distress inks and cut out with the Majestic Blooms Die. Shape the flowers and set aside.

Place one branch at the lower right of the heart on the card front. Attach looped twine to the center of the branch. Create a flower and leaf cluster on top of the branch as shown, making sure to allow the twine to peak out around the edges. Glue the second branch to the upper left of the heart and create a smaller leaf and flower cluster on top of the branch.

Add tiny beads to the center of each flower. For best results, combine seed beads with a pool of glue using a toothpick. Place "globs" of glue-covered beads onto each flower center. Allow the glue to dry completely.

Trim the "Let Love Bloom" sentiment from the Birds and Blooms paper and attach it to the left side of the heart using foam adhesive. To decorate the inside of the card, trim white cardstock to 5 7/8" x 5 7/8". Attach the white panel to the inside of the card. Trim a strip of pink Birds and Blooms paper 1" x 5 7/8" and attach the strip to the bottom of the white panel.

  14. Oh my! Oh my! Oh my!!! Your card is so beautiful! I love the lacy heart with the 3D garland cascading around it. The shabby chic blocks with their distressing are so awesome for a background but I am sure the flowers and heart would look amazing on a sleek glittery background as well! What a smart, versatile design you have created.
Thank you so much for sharing your lovely work! :)
