Heartfelt Creations Wednesday - Altered Flower Canvas

Welcome to another Heartfelt Creations Wednesday! Today, I am sharing an altered canvas with you. I much prefer to make altered canvases or "display" scrapbook layouts rather than scrapbook pages these days. I love to make dimensional projects that I can display in my home or give away as gifts.

This project is 6" x 8" and is created on an artist's canvas, which is a thin piece of chipboard wrapped in canvas. I buy these "on the cheap" at an art supply store in my area. The canvases come in a wide variety of sizes and price points, but I purchase the most inexpensive ones since I have no plans to actually PAINT on them!

I used a variety of flower dies and stamps to create my flower garden around the photo, including the new release Blazing Poppies. All the colorful blooms make me think of summertime! The lady in the photo is my "fake grandma"! I found this photo online and fell in love with her. She is the embodiment of all the older generation ladies in my family, wearing an apron and putting up fruits and vegetables and jams during the summer.

To create this project, start by sponging the edges of an artist canvas with Old Paper distress ink. Trim black cardstock to 5 7/8" x 7 7/8" and attach to the top of the canvas. Trim coral paper from the Blazing Poppies Paper Collection to 5 3/5" x 7 3/4" and attach it to the canvas front. Use double-sided tape to attach a piece of cheesecloth to the center of the canvas. Mat a 2 3/4" x 3 3/4" photo with black cardstock and attach to the canvas with foam adhesive. Make sure to overlap the cheesecloth and situate the photo approximately 2" from the bottom edge of the canvas and 1" from the right edge.

Tie a large bow from black gingham ribbon and attach it to the lower left corner of the photo.

Stamp the Blazing Poppy Petals Cling Stamp Set twice onto white cardstock. Color the flowers with distress ink. Use the Blazing Poppy Die to cut out the flowers.

Stamp the flowers and leaves from the Delightful Daisies Cling Stamp Set several times onto white cardstock and color with distress ink. Use the Delightful Daisy Die to cut out the flowers and leaves. Stamp the flowers and leaves from the Botanical Rose Cling Stamp Set several times onto white cardstock and color with distress ink. Use the Botanical Wings Die to cut out the flowers and leaves.

Use the Cut Mat Create 2A Die to cut several large vines and small leaves from green Blazing Poppies Paper. Stamp the Time Sentiments image onto white cardstock with black ink. Use the Once Upon A Time Die to cut out the sentiments. Sponge the sentiment circles with distress ink.

Assemble the flowers and leaves to create a dimensional flower arrangement around the photo, using the image shown here as a guide for placement.

Paint the flower centers with pearlized ink. Use clear glue to add micro beads to the flower centers.

Tuck metal gears, a clock charm, and a light bulb among the flowers. Add the sentiment circles to the top right of the canvas with foam adhesive.
