Berry71Bleu Challenge

Good morning, Blogger Buddies! I am excited to be a guest designer for the Berry71Bleu Challenge Blog! The talent on their design team, and the talent of the folks who play in the challenges, is OUTSTANDING! I was very flattered and honored to be asked to participate in the February Challenge!

Check out the February Mood Board Challenge!

I was asked to let the board inspire my project. All that fantastic metal and all those textures made my heart go pitter-pat!

As soon as I saw the spectacular mood board for February, I knew what I wanted to make! I love color, texture, prints, and metals, and when I saw the shoe in the mood board photo, all I could think of was: Cinderella!

I created an 8" x 8" card/scrapbook folio out of sparkly, black cardstock, with hints of antique gold cardstock. (This is a recreation of the St. Patrick's card folio I made a few weeks ago, which you can see HERE.) The stunning Graphic 45 Enchanted Forest paper is perfect for my "over the top glam" theme! Everything about the paper screams opulence and texture!

To create this folio base, cut one piece of black metallic cardstock to 8" x 8" for the card front. Cut another piece of black metallic cardstock to 8 1/2" x 8" and score at 1/2" on the long side to create a tab. Fold on the score line and glue the card front to the tab, thus creating your 8" x 8" card base.

Since I love layers, I added lots of paper layers to the card front, including some antique gold metallic cardstock! I also used some die cut shapes to give the card a "royal" look. (See the supply list at the bottom of the post for more details.) The metallic cardstock adds just that last bit of "WOW" to the project.

I added lots of metal and tons of sparkle to the card. I used gold ribbons, glittered flowers, and a "gold" crown to accent my card. The texture in the metal crown is so much like all the texture in the mood board! Having that castle and princess image in the forefront just pulls it all together. I did a tiny bit of fussy cutting around the princess to make it stand out a bit.

To add glitter to the flowers, I first sprayed them with a spray adhesive and then dipped them in glitter! It works very well, but it's messy (and stinky)!

I added a metal jewelry finding to the top right corner. I found that item years and years ago, and have hoarded it for just the right project! All the metal has been "aged" with gold alcohol ink. I also "aged" some resin corners to add to the card.

When you open the card, the inside becomes a 16" x 8" scrapbook folio! This is perfect for photos and journaling.

The top section of the inside has two flaps. The left flap has space for journaling, and then it folds open to reveal another flap with space for 4" x 6" photo.

To create the flaps, cut one piece of black metallic cardstock to 6 1/4" x 4 3/4" and score on the long side at 1/2". Fold on the score line and attach the tab to the very left edge of the card (before decorating). To create the right flap, cut one piece of black metallic cardstock to 4 1/4" x 6 3/4" and score on the short side at 1/2". Fold on the score line and attach the tab to the very right edge of the card.

The second flap opens as well to reveal journaling spots. Both the flaps fit 4" x 6" photos. The main section is perfect for adding more photos or journaling.

The bottom section has a large pocket, perfect for tucking in photos or journaling tags.

To create the pocket, cut black metallic cardstock to 4 3/4" x 9". Score 1/2" from each short side and 1/2" from one long side. Fold on the score lines to make a pocket. Attach the pocket to the bottom of the card.

The removable photo mat is 6" x 7 3/4" and tucks into the pocket.

I covered both sides of the mat with paper.

I even decorated the back of the card/folder. I trimmed one full sheet of 8" x 8" paper down to 7 7/8" x 7 7/8". The Signature sheet from the Enchanted Forest Collection is perfect!

Thanks for looking! I am so happy to have a chance to play along with Berry71Blue Challenge Blog this month!

I am also entering this project into the Frilly and Funky Layer It Up Challenge. A few of my crafty friends DT at Frilly and Funky...and I have been so wanting to play along! This layered beauty is just perfect for their current challenge!

Graphic 45 A Ladies' Diary - You Make Me Happy

A Ladies' Diary is another Deluxe Collection, re-released by Graphic 45. I created many projects and taught a few classes using this collection when it was originally released. It is a lovely set of papers, perfect for wedding, bridal shower, anniversary, and even Valentine's Day projects.

I created a 6" x 6" card, with lots of layers and flowers. I love how feminine and dainty this collection is! It also goes to show that Graphic 45 papers are TIMELESS!

Part of the fun of getting new paper collections is looking for matching embellishments. I love the pink on the Timeless Memoir paper - it is a soft, delicate pink. I found the perfect flowers in my stash! I also love the Shabby Chic Ornate Metal Key Holes...the perfect shabby chic look for this paper!

As always, I decorated the inside of the card!

If you missed this collection on it's first release, I hope you are able to snag one of the Deluxe Collector's Edition packs!

I am sharing a VERY DIFFERENT sort of project today...Bible Journaling! I shared my first Bible Journaling project HERE, and decided that I really loved doing it. So, I hauled out my Heartfelt Creations stamps and my brand NEW journaling Bible, and gave it another go!

I am trying to memorize more scripture, using "Bible art" as my method. I chose Ezekiel 47:12 for this week, which works perfectly with the Heartfelt Creations Italiana Riviera stamps! I think many of the Heartfelt stamps will work for creating Bible art. I already have plans for more pages using other stamps! Part of the journey for me is the creativity of choosing stamps and other paper craft supplies for my Bible art.

I am using am HCSB Notetaking Bible (found HERE) for my art journaling. I started out using an old devotional Bible, but I found the pages to be very thin, plus that Bible had no margins. The pages of the HCSB Bible are a tad thicker and are more of a creamy white than they appear in the photos. The margin is nice and wide, but the type is a tad smaller than I'd wish, but since this is not my normal reading Bible, I am fine with it.

I penciled in the verse from Ezekiel 47:12 and then wrote over it with an artist pen. I found the verse in the Inspiring Words Coloring Book by Zondervan. I scanned the words and printed them at 65% and, then I traced them (sort of) onto the margin of the page. My tracing abilities are not so great, and the font was a bit fussy, so I did my best. After I traced over the pencil lines with the pen, I erased the pencil lines.

I then stamped the grape cluster from the Italiana Script Cling Stamp Set onto the bottom of the page with Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I stamped the large and small leaf clusters from the Italiana Grapevines Cling Stamp Set around the edges of the verse. Since this is not the Bible I read daily, I am ok with covering up some of the text with art. The bold art helps me to connect the verse with a visual aid, which helps me to memorize the Scripture!

Make sure that you allow the ink to dry completely before coloring! I colored the lettering and the stamped images with Prismacolor pencils. The pencils are available in most craft and hobby shops, and online. I have HUGE set, but you can get away with one of the small sets, to start. I recommend using a coupon at your local craft store!

The paper takes the color well, but there is a tiny bit of bleed-through to the back page. The Memento ink bleeds through quite a bit so I may try a different ink next time. Since this is an art journal, I don't mind the bleeding that much. If it worries you, use a journal or another method for placing art into your Bible.

Easter Projects (Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts)

If you are looking for my Heartfelt Creations February Blog Hop post, please click HERE.

Hello everyone! I am sorry that the blog was so quiet all last week! I was busy with homeschooling stuff and also had a few days of a horrid migraine! But, I am back in the studio and I have a tutorial today for Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts. It is time to start those Easter cards and projects!

I created a 6" x 5 1/2" card and three mini tags in the colors of spring! I love the little vintage girls peeking out of the window!

I am sure many of you are wishing for spring to arrive! It had been very hot here in San Diego, but the nicer weather has returned! I love the high 60's and low 70's this time of year!

To get started with the project first select one of the large window frames from the Windows 4 Panel Set and ink it with gold ink. (For my full supply list, see the end of the post.) Next, cover all of the Mini Flourishes Bella with green pigment ink. I ended up using most of the package, so ink them all, just in case.

Next, ink all of the eggs from the Decorative Eggs Set with pigment inks. (I used six of the eggs in the set.) Allow the chipboard to dry completely.
Chose an image to fit behind the window openings (approximately 3 1/2" x 2 1/2"). I chose an image cut from Graphic 45 Sweet Sentiments Signature Sheet paper. (This paper is retired, but I found some on Amazon.com.) Trim a piece of Gilded Lily Creme de la Creme (reverse) to 3 3/4" x 2 3/4" and sponge the edges with gold ink. Attach the chipboard frame to the Gilded Lily paper.
Create a 6" x 5 1/2" card from ivory cardstock and round the bottom corners. Trim Gilded Lily Creme de la Creme paper to 5 7/8" x  5 3/8" and sponge the edges with gold ink. Attach the paper to the card front. Trim the Easter border from Sweet Sentiments Spring has Sprung paper and sponge the edges with gold ink. Attach the border to the top of the card. Use foam tape to attach the window frame element to the left center of the card as shown.
Glue two flourishes to the window frame, one on the left edge and one on the right edge. Add a postage stamp image (Sweet Sentiments Easter Greetings) to the lower right corner of the window frame using foam tape. Glue two small decorative Easter eggs to the bottom of the frame.
Glue paper flowers around the edges of the frame as shown. Choose colors to match the paper and the inks.

Decorate the inside of the card with Gilded Lily and Sweet Sentiments paper.

Using three tags from the Small Tag Set, create three matching Easter tags. The tags are each approximately 3 1/4" x 1 5/8".

Cover Tag 1 with Gilded Lily Creme de la Creme (reverse) paper and sponge the edges with gold ink. Glue one of the medium decorative eggs and one of the mini flourishes to the tag. Add an Easter image and some paper flowers and finish off the tag with a bit of gold and ivory chevron ribbon (for similar ribbon, click HERE).

Cover Tag 2 with Gilded Lily Creme de la Creme paper and sponge the edges with gold ink. Glue one large and one medium decorative egg to the center of the tag. Glue two mini flourishes to the tag, one in the lower left corner and one in the upper right corner. Add an Easter image and some paper flowers, and then finish off the tag with a bit of gold and ivory chevron ribbon.

Cover Tag 3 with Gilded Lily Creme de la Creme (reverse) paper and sponge the edges with gold ink. Glue one large decorative egg to the center of the tag. From the Words and Phrases 2 Set, glue "hope" (sponged with silver ink) to the center of the tag as shown. Add an Easter image and some paper flowers, and then finish off the tag with a bit of gold and ivory chevron ribbon.

The card is ready to mail and the tags are ready to tie on to an Easter basket!

Really Reasonable Ribbon February Blog Hop

Good morning, Blogger Peeps! I am here with the Really Reasonable Ribbon February Blog HopYou should be coming to my blog from the Really Reasonable Ribbon Blog. (For the complete blog list, scroll to the bottom of the post.) After visiting me, hop over to Ginny's Blog next!

Here is a peeky at the RRR February Ribbon Club Assortment. This one is called Gorgeously Green, and it is coming to you just in time for St. Patrick's Day cards and projects!

I admit that green is one of those colors I always find hard to work with. Don't ask me why. One of my children LOVES green, and my one older brother loves green so much that his whole house is green - green walls, green carpet, green tile, green counters...all shades of green! His mascot is Jiminy Cricket...because Jiminy is green! I can work with green! Nothing makes me rise to the challenge more than, well, a challenge!

I had Graphic 45 Children's Hour on my desk, and decided to use the March papers from that collection, along with the March papers from Time to Flourish. I wanted to make another 8" x 8" card, only this time, I thought I would make more of a scrapbook folder posing as a card! I used several shades of green ribbon and paper, mixed with some pretty purple!

I used the Apple Green Swiss Mini Dots Satin ribbon to make a loopy bow, which I hot glued to the card. I then made another bow with the Mixed Green Vertical Striped Satin ribbon. I tied a few charms to the striped bow with Iridescent White Metallic String (out of stock). I then glued the second bow on top of the first. Lots of bow yummy-ness!

Once you open the "card" you actually get a scrapbook folder! I saw Kathy Orta's A Year in Review album and loved her use of Graphic 45 paper, and the folders that she used inside the album! (To purchase the directions for the folders, go to Kathy's site HERE. I used the folder directions included in Foto Folio 2, Style 5.) I decided to flip the folder upside down, change the measurements a bit, and turn it into one of my 8" x 8" cards!

The top section of the inside has two flaps. The March flap is a good space for some journaling. I used a bit of the Apple Green Swiss Mini Dots Satin ribbon as a "belly band" to hold some tags. That fabby horseshoe is from Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts!

Open the flap and find space for a 6" x 4" photo. You can see another photo mat/journaling spot that I made from the Time to Flourish papers. I love that the two calendar collections match well together!

The second flap opens as well. Both the flaps are a bit larger than 4" x 6".

The main section is perfect for a large photo, which can slip under the little post card image at the bottom.

The bottom section has a large pocket, perfect for tucking in photos or journaling tags. I used the Children's Hour Calendar Pad for the March pocket title.

There is a photo mat that is slightly smaller than 6" x 8" tucked into the pocket.

I covered goth sides of the mat with paper.

Even the back of the card/folder is decorated! The purple print is the B-side of the March calendar page!

I simply love how the green ribbon complements my green and purple scrapbook folder card!

Thanks for stopping by today! Now, hop over to Ginny's Blog next!
