Monthly Coloring Series - August

Here we are, with our last coloring project! It has been a fun year, right?! I have so enjoyed coloring all these flower images throughout the year! I think we should keep going, don't you?! {wink}

For those of you just joining me, I have been coloring one image each month, using the Power Poppy digital flower images, found HERE. If you missed any of the previous projects, click HERE.

I loved coloring this image because the orange and white, with that pop of blue is just so striking! (I confess, this is the FIRST image I colored when I started the series, but I finished it too late to post it, so I ended up starting the series in September instead!)

I also confess that I thought the white flowers were daisies when I started coloring....but they are actually Cosmos! But those come in white, too! The bouquet contains California Poppies, Cosmos, and Hummingbird Sage (which I had no clue what that was! I had to Google it!) The sage actually does have blue flowers on some species, so I am still doing fine! 

The Countryside Bouquet digital stamp set I used for my August image is currently a $6 download. This image is also part of the Countryside Bouquet Deluxe stamp set, for $18. 

Using Adobe Illustrator, I created my panel at about 5 1/4" x 5 1/4". I rotated the image slightly and sized it at approximately 4 1/4" wide. 

The finished panel is 6 1/8" x 6 1/8". I have used a stitched square die to cut out the main image panel (which measures 5 1/4" x 5 1/4"). My plan is to display each monthly image at my desk, as shown below.

I am using "Great Vibes" as my font, which I sized at about 45pt. I printed the panel onto Hammermill 100# cardstock with my Epson ET-3700 using black ink. I was a bit worried about the printer ink bleeding since I was coloring white (actually gray). But, it worked fine!

My image is colored with a combination of Copic Markers and Prismacolor Pencils. I first lay down the Copic markers, and then go back and add depth and highlight with the pencils. I finish with more highlights using a white pencil or a gel pen.

Here are the color combinations I have used for the finished project (listed in this order: Copics, then Prismacolor Pencils by name):

Orange Poppies: YR24, R12, YR09, YR07, YR04, E77, E49, E47
White Cosmos: BV31, BV23, BV20, C7, Y15, E29, E23
Blue Hummingbird Sage: B60, B26, B24, B00, B000
Leaves and Stems: G28, G24, G21, G20, GY21, YG0000
Shadows: 70% Warm Gray, 30% Warm Gray, White; White Gelly Roll Pen

Background: BG0000, BG000, Colorless blender

My cardstock panels are black, blue, and orange. I added a blue twine and two orange buttons for decoration.
