December Daily Part 2: Creating Journal Pages
for Days 1-10
Last week we got started collecting our supplies and binding materials for our Graphic 45 inspired December Daily Journal. By now you should have your shopped your stash, picked up a few new goodies, and decorated your cover! If you missed Part 1, click the link in the right side bar, or click HERE.
It's time to make some pages for our journals! I hope you have fun with me today as we walk step-by-step and make pages 1 - 10.
Take a journey with me each week, for the next three weeks, as we make this one-of-a-kind mini album! Visit my blog for step-by-step directions, according to the following schedule.
If you missed week one, see the post for December 1st
Today: instructions for creating pages 1-10
December 15th: instructions for creating pages 11-21
December 22nd: instructions for creating pages 22-31
Page 1
1. Cut thin chipboard to 5x8 inches. (Note, you can use heavy cardstock rather than chipboard.)
2. Cover the front of the chipboard with Christmas Emporium The Holly and the Ivy paper (5x8 inches).
3. Cut a strip of Christmas Emporium Toyland paper to 5x1 inches and adhere to the edge of the page. Sand all edges and distress with white pigment ink or white paint.
4. Attach a Christmas Emporium chipboard tag to the lower right corner of the page. Tie twine through the hole and glue an epoxy number "1" to the tag.
5. Embellish the page with a Christmas ticket.
Page 2
1. Flip page one over and decorate the back by covering the chipboard with Christmas Emporium Toyland paper.
2. Sand all edges and distress with white pigment ink or white paint.
3. Cut a 4" circle from notebook paper and ink edges with brown ink. Attach to upper left corner of the page.
4. Paint a large chipboard number "2" with red paint or ink with red chalk ink and attach to the notebook paper.
5. Tie twine through a small green button and glue the button to the number "2."
6. Trim out a Christmas saying from paper or a sticker sheet and glue to the top of the note paper. You can also use a rub-on or print a saying on your computer.
7. Punch binding holes.
Page 3
1. Page three is made from Graphic 45 packaging. If you decorated the front of your album with a Graphic 45 metal door plate, you should have the packaging left over. You can use the packaging, or trace the shape onto thin chipboard or heavy cardstock.
2. Cover the front of the tag with Christmas Emporium 'Tis the Season paper and trim. Sand all edges and distress with white pigment ink or white paint.
3. Cut a piece of notebook paper to 3x6 inches to create a journaling block. (I created my own paper by trimming a piece of cream cardstock to size, then using a pen to draw journaling lines.)
4. Distress the journaling block and attach to the center of the tag. I used a rub-on in the upper left corner of the block. Mine says: Traditions.
5. Cover a chipboard shape with Le Cirque Wizards of Wonder paper and ink and sand edges. Glue to the lower right of the tag.
6. Ink or paint a chipboard number "3" in red. Use a paint pen or gel pen to draw white dots on the number. Glue to the center of the chipboard mat.
7. Trim an image from Christmas Past Jolly Old St. Nicholas paper, distress with ink and slip behind the chipboard mat.
8. Add a jewel brad to the tag.
Page 4
1. Flip the tag over and cover with Christmas Emporium 'Tis the Season paper and trim. Sand all edges and distress with white pigment ink or white paint.
2. Punch a Santa image from Graphic 45 paper and glue to a bottle cap. (I smashed my cap to make it flatter. You can buy bottle caps that are "pre-smashed.") Glue to the tag as shown.
3. Use Glossy Accents to attach a sheer journaling block to the tag (Maya Road).
4. Use a premade circle journaling block, or create one with cardstock and stamps or your printer. Use dies or punches to create circles if you don't have a premade item that works. Glue to the upper right of the sheer journaling block. Mine says: My favorite holiday memory.
5. Ink or paint a chipboard number "4" in red. Glue to the center of the circle as shown.
6. Punch binding holes.
Page 5
1. Cut chipboard to 5x8 inches.
2. Cover the front of the chipboard with Fashionista Perfumeries paper (5x8 inches). Sand all edges and distress with white pigment ink or white paint.
3. Trim out a Christmas image from decorative paper and stamp or write the number "5" on it. The paper I used was an advent sheet and had the numbers already printed on the paper.
4. Back your paper with chipboard or foam tape for dimension. Distress the edges. Glue to the upper left of the page.
5. Glue glitter snowflakes to your page as shown. I found these at a craft store. They are a thin plastic shape, with glitter on the top. They are NOT self-adhesive. I glued them down with Glossy Accents.
Page 6
1. Flip page five over and decorate the back by covering the chipboard with Christmas Past Christmas Wishes paper.
2. Sand all edges and distress with white pigment ink or white paint.
3. Use a stamp or rub-one to title the page. Mine says: Deck the halls.
4. Cover a chipboard number "6" with gold or yellow ink, then cover with gold Stickles glitter glue. Allow to dry.
5. Use a premade circle journaling block or cut a 2" circle from cardstock. You can stamp or print on your paper before cutting it out. Attach to lower left corner of the page. Make sure you save space to attach your number to the left of the journaling block.
6. Once your number is dry, glue to the lower left corner, overlapping the journaling circle.
7. Punch binding holes.
Page 7
1. Cut chipboard to 5x8 inches.
2. Cover the front of the chipboard with Fashionista Vintage Cherries paper (5x8 inches). Sand all edges and distress with white pigment ink or white paint.
3. Create a pocket from a standard invitation size envelope in a kraft color. (The size is slightly larger than 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 inches.) Decorate the envelope BEFORE gluing to the page.
4. Trim Christmas Emporium paper to 2 5/8 x 5 1/2 inches and attach to the lower part of the envelope. Trim Toyland paper to 2 x 5 3/8 inches and glue to the envelope flap.
5. Use a stamp, rub-on, or sticker to add a Christmas title to the envelope. Mine says: Fa-la-la.
6. Ink a chipboard number "7" with brown ink. Use black ink to stamp music notes over the top of the number. I inked my stamp with Staz-on ink, the placed my stamp face up and pressed the number onto the inked stamp. I get much better coverage this way. I used Staz-on to make sure the music image came out crisp.
7. Glue the number to the envelop flap. Make sure you can open your flap!
8. Glue a Christmas Emporium chipboard tag to the lower left corner of the envelope. Tie satin ribbon through the hole.
9. Use Christmas Emporium and Toyland paper to cover the inside of the envelope flap.
10. Tuck tags and journaling blocks inside the envelope.
Page 8
1. Flip page seven over and decorate the back by covering the chipboard with An ABC Primer Calico Kids paper. Sand all edges and distress with white pigment ink or white paint.
2. Attach a Christmas Emporium chipboard tag to the center of a sheer calendar embellishment (Maya Road). I used a small hole punch to punch holes in "Dec" and "8" on the calendar prior to attaching it to the page with Glossy Accents. I also glued the tag to the calendar so that it wouldn't "flop" around.
3. Trim a number "8" from paper or a sticker sheet. I cut mine from paper, which I attached to chipboard for added dimension. Attach your number to the upper left of the page.
4. Punch binding holes.
Page 9
1. For page 9 I used a page from a Graphic 45 Kraft Envelope Album Staples. You can use any envelop that opens at the top, such as a coin envelope.
2. Distress with white pigment ink or white paint.
3. Attach a premade journaling block to the center of the envelope, under the flap. Mine says: Holiday happenings. (If you don't have any journaling tags, they are easy to make with stamps or your computer. You can also find them online for free; you just have to print them.)
4. Attach a number "9" to the envelope flap. I trimmed mine from some decorative paper that I had in my stash.
5. Embellish the envelop with a Christmas brad (Teresa Collins).
6. Cover the inside of the envelope flap with Christmas Emporium A Christmas Carol paper. This will hide the legs of the brad.
Page 10
1. Flip page ten over and distress with white pigment ink or white paint.
2. Cut a strip of Christmas Emporium Toyland paper to 4 1/2 x 7/8 inches. Distress with white ink. Glue to the left edge of the envelope.
3. Use a premade circle journaling block or cut a 2" circle from cardstock. Attach to lower left corner of the envelope.
4. Decorate the left side of the envelope with rub-ons, sticker, or stamps. I used glittery rub-on snow flakes.
5. Glue a glitter chipboard "10" (American Crafts) to the upper right corner of the envelope. Make sure you don't cover your binding holes! You can make your own glitter numbers by covering chipboard numbers with glue, and sprinkling them with glitter. Or use Stickles!
6. You may need to punch extra binding holes. You can see that I have two extra round holes at the upper and lower corners of my envelope. Use page 8 to measure for placement. I did not feel like punching all the other holes again, as I don't care that they are not round.
