Simple Doodles Sneak Peeks

I have a few more Simple Doodles sneak peeks today, plus a few other challenges. I have huge plans to work in my studio this weekend (because I need to make 10 favors for my LSS club meeting on Tuesday!), but first I must clean the house and decorate for Christmas! So after this post, I have to stay away from the computer and the studio for a bit!

My first card hits two challenges. First, Day 280 at 365 Cards - Candy Cane. We are to use red and white stripes on our card. And I also used the sketch that was posted on both Our Creative Corner and Stamps and Smiles Fresh Batch. I made a long card, rather than the standard A2 size, but it still matches the sketch pretty well.

The yummy candy cane paper is MAMBI flocked paper! It's so cool. I purchased a big pad of this paper last year at Michael's when it went on sale after Christmas. The "believe" paper is from one of those DCWV stacks. I over-stamped the paper with the sleigh (Inkadinkado). The greeting is a Studio G stamp. I have about 20 of those little Christmas sets! You can't see in the photo, but I traced over the greeting with a glitter pen.

I used EK Success punches to cut the snowflakes out of some glitter paper. Then I added gems.

Now for the Simple Doodles sneak peeks! Do you love this cute band aid digi?! I used the CPC Color Monday challenge for this next card: Certainly Celery, Bashful Blue, Kraft. I did not use SU colors, but I do have green, blue, and tan.

The plaid paper is October Afternoon (from my last ASD kit). I colored the band aid with markers, then filled in the heart with star dust Stickles. Then I covered the whole band aid with liquid glass (Close to My Heart). After it dried and I cut it out and used it on my card. The liquid glass dries so much faster than glossy accents! The greeting is an old CTMH stamp.

For the last card, I used the Simple Doodles balloon digi stamp. I colored it with pencil and mineral spirits (more about that in a minute). The little birdie is a Inkadinkado stamp, that I cut out. Oh yeah, had to wear my reading glasses for that one!

The paper is My Little Shoebox. The ribbon is Martha Stewart - I got a bunch of that printed ribbon for next to nothing at Big Lots a month or so ago! Gotta love that!

The flower is Prima and the pearls are Kaiser Kraft.

Ok, about the colored pencils and mineral spirits. I read on Splitcoaststampers a while ago that folks were blending colored pencils with "gamsol" which is mineral spirits. I wanted to try it, so my wonderful husband, on one of his many trips to Lowes, got me a big bottle of a green version of mineral spirits. It's says it's 85% oder free, non-flammable, non-toxic (guess I can't get high or blow myself up). I poured about 1/2 inch into a container with a tight lid, and cut a piece of a Close to My Heart craft sponge to put in the container.

I color with pencils. I don't have fancy ones; I use Crayola and EK Success pencils. Then, using a "dead" SU blender pen dipped into the mineral spirits (I tap it onto my sponge), I blend the pencil. It works pretty well. The better quality paper you use, the better it blends. I don't have any issues with my printed or stamped images bleeding either.

I am not that great with coloring...my friend Melody has a PhD in coloring. I've barely graduated Kindergarten! I hope to learn more and maybe Santa will buy me good pencils since he cannot afford Copics....

Now, I have to....dust.....{whine whine whine}. Have a wonderful day in His Sight!

  1. Lovely Cards Gloria!!! Love your coloring too..if you have Michaels store near your home..try Monalisa~ odorless paint thinner..it works the best with Prisma pencil or any other color pencils (that need Gamsol for blending).
