Well, Phooey!

I waited all day yesterday for "the phone call" from Spellbinders to tell me I had made the 2010 Design Team. I was like a girl waiting for a boy to call and ask her to the Prom! Well, the phone did not ring all day. Not once! Not one person wanted to call this house. Humph! So, I checked the Spellbinders Blog this morning and saw that my name, was alas, omitted from the team. I feel bad about it, but the talent on that list is huge and I am honored to have made the Top 24! My dh and my younger ds were very upset for me. My 9yo son said he had been looking forward to having a "famous scrapping mom"! Too funny! This DT is something I really wanted, and this was my second year to try out. But, it's just paper crafting...not finding a cure for cancer or the common cold! I have a lot of other opportunities and ideas up my sleeve...and there is always next year! (I am, however, planning to eat a rather large chocolate bar later on today.)

I thought some of you may be curious as to what my final project looked like. We were given a set of inverted scallop circle dies and a film strip die to use for our final project. This is the 12x12 layout that I made. I used a photo of my MIL from when she was little. She was adorable!

I really love how the layout turned out and am sad now that I don't have it for my album now. I used October Afternoon and Graphic 45 papers, plus pages from an old book. I made my "signature" circle flowers with stacked buttons and pearls.

I think I used the film strip creatively, also. I tucked a paper lace doily behind it. I love that plaid apple button - it matches MIL's little dress!

I also used the new Stampin' Up border punch that I earned for free during Sale-a-Bration! And I tried a gathering technique on the lace - this is something I've never done before...as it involves threading a needle and SEWING!

So, that's my "non-winning" project! I love it and know I did my best on it. I hope I can find that paper at the LSS so I can recreate the page!

Congratulations to the new team. I know we'll see great things from them. I also know that there will be amazing new products coming from Spellbinders this year. And I have my wishlist already started!

  5. Gaahhh, sorry to hear! You must have had an awful day. I was so crossing my fingers for you, and your page is such a stunning piece of art that it's clear you did what you could. The loss is Spellbinders's, like Amy says. Well, there will always be next year, and you will have loads of opportunities to do magic before then! Big Hug!

  6. This is an ABSOLUTELY beautiful page, Gloria. I'm also sad for you, but am happy to know such an amazing paper crafter! You're still "famous" in my book (since I tell people about you all the time!)

Keep at it. You do AMAZING work!
