365 Cards - Day 1 - Color Scheme

Here we are - Day 1 of a new 365 Cards year. I am staying on the team as the Monday Challenge "artist." I think Pam was afraid to get rid of me for fear of me becoming a daily participant! (just kidding....)

During this past year with 365 Cards, I have been stretched so far out of my comfort zone by Pam's challenges that I cannot get back! I have learned a lot (which I thought impossible since I've been card making since Moses was a boy), and I really found myself enjoying this creative process to the fullest! I am so happy to be on board for one more year!

Your challenge today is the color scheme below: teal, chocolate, white, red, kraft.

I sort of used a pale version of the teal color, but I told Pam that she knew I'd cheat sooner or later, so might as well do it on the first card of the year and put her out of her misery! (insert evil laugh here)

I used Basic Grey Nook and Pantry for my background and paper piecing. I could not figure out how to use this sheet of BG paper. It's so busy and...wow! I had stamped the My Favorite Things image (thanks, Melody!) onto white and then some scraps of Nook and Pantry, so I paper pieced the lady first. Then the rest of the card just came together. (I channelled my inner Rose today!)

I colored the dress with some green and blue Copics (YG11, YG23, B95, B97) to create the teal color. I colored the skin with E21 and E50, and the spoon with E35. (I totally sound like I know what I'm doing with those Copics, right?!) Since I used ink, this also matches the Practical Scrappers challenge for this week.

I cut the ovals with Nestie dies and the tag with a SU punch. The sentiment is CTMH. That yummy chocolate ribbon is May Arts (thanks, Jennifer!). I think the button is Papertrey Ink. I tied some twine through the button holes. I love this look - sort of classic and sort of shabby at the same time.

I also used the February CropStop sketch for inspiration. Each month we are given a card sketch and a layout sketch to play with. As part of the DT, I am required to do at least one of the sketches. I chose the card sketch as it's an easy one to change up.

Instead of a heart shape and lots of buttons, I used my stamped image and one large button.

I hope you are ready for another year of cards! I sure am! So much paper, so little time!

ETA: Many of you know that my family and I have been very active in our church, in leadership, children's ministry, music ministry, and more. Well, due to some difficult issues, we've made the very hard choice to leave our church of the past 5 years and seek a new church home. Please pray that the Lord will show us His will during this uncertain time. It's very scary to visit new churches and meet so many new people. We struck out in faith Sunday morning, and while we don't feel the church we visited was a good fit, we were blessed by the love we were shown.

  1. Gloria, as I wrote before, you've done a great job with this color scheme (did Pam really chose it herself? alone? where does she get her ideas).
And I pray for you and your family to find the church that is the best for you. I can understand the scary feeling of new places.
I wish you and your family all the best!

  12. It's such a great card Gloria, and you have used the colour combo perfectly! I wouldn't know what to do with that busy paper!

I've got my Aimee enrolled in a catholic primary school and we're not a religious family but she enjoys it and I can see she will want to go to church soon. I am looking forward to taking her because I want her to grow up with an open mind, I'm trying to teach her as much about everything as I possibly can. it's a big scray world out there. Good luck in finding a new Church xx
