Compendium of Curiosities Week 12

A few weeks ago I discovered the Studio L3 Blog, and have been doing the Compendium of Curiosities Challenges...from Tim Holtz's book. (I have finally ordered Tim's book and it has shipped, so it will be here in a few days.) So...for last week and this week, I had to try to remember how do to the techniques from memory. So far, I'm doing pretty well, but am anxious to get my hands on the book! Anyway, the challenge for this week is CHIPPED ENAMEL. Here's my stab at it.

And, yes, I used Graphic45 Christmas Past again. I do have other paper in my stash, but I love G45 and do have a lot of it sitting here. Might as well use it! If you are tired of seeing it, I will be making some cards this week with other papers, so stay tuned! Anyway...I needed some metal to "enamel" so found this ginormous Basic Grey bookplate in my stash. I think I found them in a bin at Big Lots a few years ago - for $1.

I don't have any distress embossing powder, so used a mix of other powders I had in my stash. (I am not much of a heat embosser. Too messy!) I love how the bookplate turned out. I looks all old and...well, like enamelware to me! I jazzed everything up with mulberry paper roses and some vintage looking brads (K&Co). I added just a bit of crochet lace and some Christmas rub-ons.

I showed this card to my husband and he said, "What's up with the backwards D?" Sigh.... He has no creative eye! But, I am one Christmas card closer to being finished! Woot!

ETA: I am also entering this into the Really Reasonable Ribbon challenge, which calls for Flowers and Ribbon, of course. I have flowers and lace trim...so hope that counts!

  6. Ooh, this is GORGEOUS, Gloria! Such a lovely, vintage holiday feel (the main image is darling-- that little dog!!!), and the papers and lace are so sweet. You did a great job on the chipped enamel-- from memory, no less!-- and creating a really wonderful work of art.

You're going to have a BLAST when you book arrives, and I'm glad you're already in the groove and sharing your talent with us at the CCC!
