Scrapbooking, MacGyver Style!

As you may have read on the blog, I was in the Outer Banks, North Carolina for vacation last week. Some of my extended family met us there for a family reunion.

Here is the house we rented, for the 15 people who attended. Pretty sweet, right?! This is a view from the beach toward the back of the house. Anyway, inside the house there were two guest books, but they were both full. My sister and niece wanted to contribute a new one, but they could not find anything they liked. Needless to say, they asked me to make something.

I was not really "with the program" since I had not taken any of my scrap supplies on the vacation. My niece found this "naked" journal (Fancy Pants) at the local scrapbook store (Beach Memories), and decided it was exactly what "we" needed!

This is what I had to make a journal: one naked journal, four sheets of printed paper, several packages of 3D stickers, a few postcards, scissors, a roll of Scor-tape, a bottle of Scrap Happy Glue, a pencil, and a pen. Really? The person who has EVERYTHING? This called for my best MacGyver skills! I did not have a straight edge, a craft knife, or a paper trimmer!

Here is the front of the journal. It turned out pretty cool, if I do say so myself!

I wrote a dedication on the inside cover to my brother and my father-in-law, then I added a postcard of the Outer Banks. I put a note on the back of the postcard page telling future guests to write a message in the book.

I did some decorating on the inside and added a postcard with a message of my own. I kept it clean, but carried the theme through all the pages. I selfishly added my name and blog address to the back inside cover. I am curious to see if anyone ever contacts me! Most of the folks staying in the house added messages of their own, even the kids.

And that is how you scrapbook, MacGyver style! To make the story even better...I found out on the last day, as we were packing to leave, that the house next door had a large group of scrapbookers visiting all week! Rats! My "people" were right there and I did not even know it. They stayed inside all week. Like good scrappers! {giggle}

Farewell, OBX!
