World Card Making Day was a Bust!

Well, Blogger Friends. I did not spend yesterday making cards in celebration of World Card Making Day. Instead, I spent the morning at the vet's office saying good-bye to our 14 year old kitty, Simon.

Simon suddenly stopped eating on Wednesday and by the end of the day Thursday had stopped drinking and using the litter box. On Friday the vet told us that it was likely there was nothing we could do for him as he appeared to have a number of large tumors (lymphoma). We took him to the vet specialist on Saturday morning who confirmed the diagnosis. He told us that surgery was impossible and any treatment would not be beneficial. We had to make the choice to let Simon go. Such a very sad day.

This was his favorite thing to do...sleep in the sun, on top of the kids' school books. And a Garfield comic! It looks like he fell asleep doing Algebra and Health homework. He was a wonderful companion for the kids and a super cat. For a rescue kitty, he was pretty amazing. I know that 14 years is long time to have a pet, and we are grateful to have had him share in our lives for so long.

My husband and I stayed with him until the end and cuddled him and gave him all of the love we could. Saying good-bye was so difficult, but he was in pain and fading away so quickly. We have 14 years of wonderful memories of him.

Here is a card I made some time ago that speaks to how I feel today.

Thanks for all the kind words and prayers. Many of you read about this on Facebook and have been so sweet. Anyone who has lost a furry friend knows how your heart breaks when they are lost. It means a lot to me to read your supportive words.

  7. What a sweet tribute to a sweet friend and companion. Someday...some bright eternal day, there will be NO MORE death, pain and suffering. Yet even now, despite the tears, heartache, grief and sorrow, we can rejoice because our Savior because is victorious and He is our strength and our shield. May He comfort your grieving heart, dear friend. Hugs and blessings!!

  13. Oh Gloria I am so sorry! I could not have children so my dogs have been my kids. We had to let Heidi go when she was 17, and I thought my heart would never heal. But God does give us strength to go forward. Wishing you wonderful memories to make this time less painful.

  16. Oh, this post really hit home as I also had to have my sweet kitty, Bailey, put down last month. He was 14 years old and had been suffering from respiratory disease for a year and a half but it was so very hard to let him go. I am grateful that I didn't have to let him suffer and I stayed with him at the vet's office until the end as well. But he has left a hole in my heart and will be missed so much. I am so sorry for your loss. Our pets are like family and enrich our lives in every way.

  18. Gloria, thanks for posting, even though it must have been a difficult post to write. The picture you shared of Simon, your beloved cat, was so peaceful looking. Perhaps that image will, in time, give you peace as well. My sympathy to you and your family in losing such a sweet cat.
