I have created a folio, measuring approximately 4 1/2" x 8 1/2" x 3/4", out of chipboard, paper, and cardstock. This project makes a great gift, and it is easy to use up you paper scraps and left overs.
The inside of the folio contains a pocket and a waterfall photo element. The whole thing is held together with a "belly band."
I have been asked to share some of my projects with photos and journaling included. Well...that does not happen very often! Mostly I want you to imagine the project with YOUR photos, rather than be distracted by mine. Plus, I am just really lazy about looking for and printing photos to match project samples that must be sent away to the manufacturer! I prefer to send the project "naked." {grin}
The best thing about this project, aside from the pretty papers, is how fast it is to put together. once you make one, and get the hang of it, you can make these over and over again with any paper you choose!
Edited to add: I received a note asking me to share my inspiration for this project. My primary inspiration was a set of "file folder folios" I made in 2011. See those HERE and HERE. But the idea for a waterfall folio comes from Stampin' Up. A few years ago, every SU demonstrator was making these, so I am not sure who the original designer was. Here is one that I saw recently on Shalana's blog. I used the same measurements, more or less, as she did. My Heartfelt Creations teamie Olga created a folio in a different size. See hers HERE. My pal Kathy Clement just posted a Halloween version, HERE.
Let's get started!
Cut apple paper from the Farmers Market Paper Collection to 11" x 9 1/2". Place the paper face down on the work surface. Cut two pieces of chipboard to 4 1/2" x 8 1/2" and one piece of chipboard to 3/4" x 8 1/2". Attach the chipboard pieces onto the wrong side of the apple paper as shown. Make sure to leave spacing of approximately 1/16" between the chipboard pieces in order to fold the covers closed.
Place strong adhesive around the outside edges of the chipboard. Trim the four corners of the paper at an angle to the chipboard corners.
Fold the edges of the paper over the chipboard, attaching with strong adhesive.
Trim chicken wire paper from the Classic Sunflower Paper Collection to 10" x 8 1/2" and attach to the inside of the folio, covering the chipboard.
Fold the covers closed and crease lightly.
The outside of the folio will look like this.
Create a pocket on the inside left cover of the folio by cutting black cardstock to 5" by 6". Score at 1/2" from the left edge and 1/2" from the bottom edge.
Cut away the 1/2" square at the bottom left corner and fold the paper on both score lines. Make sure the tabs are folded to the back side of the cardstock. With the paper tabs folded, measure 2" from the top left corner and make a mark on the cardstock. Measure 3" up from the bottom right corner and make a mark. Draw a diagonal line between the two marks. Cut on that diagonal line to create the pocket shape.
Place strong adhesive on the folded tabs and attach to the left folio cover, making sure to line up the left and bottom edges.
Trim vegetable print paper from the Farmers Market Collection to approximately 4 3/8" x 5 3/8". Measure the decorative paper 1 7/8" from the top left corner and make a mark on the paper. Measure 2 7/8" up from the bottom right corner and make a mark. Draw a diagonal line between the two marks. Cut on that diagonal line to create the pocket shape. Attach the decorative paper to the pocket.
Create a waterfall photo section by trimming black cardstock to 4" x 7 3/4" and attaching it to the center of the inside right folio cover. Trim text paper from the Classic Sunflower Paper Collection to 3 7/8" x 7 5/8" and attach to the black cardstock panel.
Create the waterfall panels by cutting eight pieces of black cardstock to 4" x 4 1/2". Score 1/2" from the top edge of each panel. Use a corner rounder to round the bottom two corners of each panel. Trim 16 decorative paper panels from the Farmers Market and Classic Sunflower Paper Collections to 3 7/8" x 3 7/8". Round the bottom corners of each piece of printed paper. Attach the decorative pieces to both sides of each of the eight waterfall panels.
Crease the panels on the score line, folding the 1/2" tab to the back of the panel.
Using strong adhesive, attach the first panel to the top edge of the text panel on the right side of the folio.
Continue to attach the panels, lining up the folded edge of each panel to the bottom edge of the tab of each previous panel.Trim thin strips of paper to place over each tab, covering the black cardstock. These strips are approximately 1/4" x 3 7/8".
Trim some of the images from the Farmers Market paper and add them to the tags. Make sure to only put adhesive on one side of the image, allowing you to tuck a photo under the image.
Also, use the Luggage and Tags Die to cut out some of the tags from the paper collections. Add the tags to the waterfall pages.
Decorate the top of the first waterfall panel by using the Jars and Vines Die to trim a jar image from the Farmers Market paper. Attach the jar to the panel with foam adhesive. Stamp the olives with branch image from the Jars and Accents Cling Stamp Set onto kraft cardstock with black ink. Color the image with distress inks. Use the Farmers Market Fruit Die to cut out the image. Glue the branch to the jar.
Create a "belly band" to hold the folio closed by trimming black cardstock to 10" x 2". Trim plaid printed paper from the Classic Sunflower Paper Collection to 9 7/8" x 1 7/8" and attach to the cardstock strip. Use sharp scissors to trim the jar and apple basket image from the Farmers Market paper. Use the Luggage and Tags Die to cut a ticket from Farmers Market paper.
Wrap the band around folio, securing the band in the back. Add the ticket sentiment to the band. Attach the apple basket image to the front of the band with foam adhesive.
Slide the band over the bottom of the folio as shown.
