Graphic 45 and Art-C Groove Tool

Welcome to the blog today. All this week the Graphic 45 team has been sharing projects we made with the Art-C Groove Tool by Momenta! Grab a snack, put your feet up, and check out this project tutorial!

Each designer on the G45 Domestic Team received a tool (and lots of other Momenta goodies) to try. I had fun using the sanding attachments and the sponge attachment to make my project. (To see a video of the Groove Tool in action, click HERE.)

I created a 6" x 5" x 1/2" accordion-style mini album using "timeless" as a theme, which represents what Graphic 45 paper is all about, timeless papers and embellishments!

There are eleven decorated panels, plus the front covers! The mini is decorated with coordinating colors of red, blue, and black from the Times Nouveau Deluxe Collector's Edition, Home Sweet Home, Couture, and Typography Collections. I love how the Graphic 45 Collections are so versatile and color-matched.

If you wish to see a slideshow of the full mini, click HERE. Otherwise, keep reading for a tutorial and close-up photos of each page.

The Art-C Groove Tool is great for adding ink to all the edges of the paper and tags. The sanding attachment is perfect for sanding rough edges on the chipboard elements and sanding embossed paper.

To create this mini, start by trimming black cardstock to 6" x 12". Make sure to use a heavy weight cardstock.

Score on the long side at 2 1/2", 3", 8", and 8 1/2".

Fold on the score lines to form the base and covers of the mini.

To create the accordion fold-out, trim four pieces of black cardstock to 5 7/8" x 9 7/8". Fold each panel in half. (I only show three panels in the photo, but to copy the sample, make FOUR.) Use a thin weight cardstock to keep the project from getting too bulky.

Attach the four panels together in an accordion-fold. (Only three panels are shown, here. Please add a fourth to create the sample.)

Attach the accordion insert to the center of the card base. You may wish to decorate your surfaces FIRST, and then attach the accordion.

Use the Groove Tool with the sponge attachment to add ink to the edges of your paper.

I used a few pieces of embossed Core'dinations cardstock to my project. I sanded the surface of the cardstock with the Groove Tool.

Flip the base panel over and add Graphic 45 paper to all surfaces. I trim my paper 1/16" smaller on each edge to allow for a border of the black cardstock. You may wish to add thin, strong magnets to the two cover flaps before you add the decorative paper. The magnets will keep the covers closed.

I used the Times Nouveau Deluxe Collector's Edition pack. This has always been one of my favorite G45 collections. I was very happy when they "re-booted" it and added a few new elements!

Turn the base panel to show the inside. Decorate the inside of the covers as shown. I used bits of the embossed cardstock at the tops of the left and right panels. Use strong adhesive to attach the accordion section to the center panel.

Close the covers and add the Times Nouveau chipboard clock embellishment to the right-hand cover. I added a chipboard word (Gina's Designs) to the clock. I sprayed the word with ink mists.

Open the left-hand cover flap and add a few chipboard gears to the top.

Open both cover flaps. Create a pocket for the right-hand cover flap. Add tags or ephemera. I also wanted to cover the naked chipboard that was hanging over from the front cover. I covered the back of the element with paper and a sticker.

The center panel is the first page of the accordion insert. I have created a pocket for this page, and I added a few chipboard gears and a custom chipboard element.

To create the custom pocket decoration, I used a sticker from the Times Nouveau Sticker sheet and a chipboard shape from the Steampunk Spells collection. I have tons of left-over chipboard from Steampunk Spells because I created workshop projects with some of the pieces, meaning there are piles of left overs. I often dig into that pile and alter the chipboard in some way. For this page, I simply attach the Times Nouveau sticker to the same shape chipboard, and...instant embellishment!

Pull the accordion insert to the left. The album opens to nearly 30 inches! Each page of the accordion is decorated with Graphic 45 papers! Page 1 is the front pocket described above. Page 6 is the back of the right-hand cover flap.

Page 2: I mixed Couture papers with the Times Nouveau. (You can still find Couture online, if you search for it.) I created a tag holder out of Stackable Labels Shape Set chipboard and a phrase from the Art-C Lace Ephemera Collage Kit. I sprayed the chipboard with mists before assembly.

Page 3: I also used a bit of Typography paper. It is another retired collection, but you may be able to find it online. I recommend that you look in your stash for papers that coordinate, and use up what you have on hand. This is a project that can work for any theme or paper style.

I used the NEW World's Fair stamp to stamp a large tag. The tiny tag is from Art-C, Kraft Mini Tag Pack.
Page 4: I used Gina's Dressforms 1 Miniature Shape Set to create a label holder for this page. Make sure you only glue one side of the embellishment to the page. That way you can slide tags under the opposite edge.

Page 5: This page is a diagonal pocket. I used the Gina's Words and Phrases 1 as well as the Art-C word strips. I used papers from the G45 Home Sweet Home 6x6 Patterns and Solids Pad for this project as well. It always amazes me how the G45 collections can all work together!

Now, flip the accordion section to the right to reveal four more panels! This is one jam-packed mini! Page 7 is the inside of the cover flap that we looked at above.

Page 8: I used some embossed cardstock to create another diagonal pocket. I love the combination of clocks and gears along with the fashion-theme. It is that harmony of feminine with edge that I adore. The gear chipboard is from the Gina's Designs Gears Border and Corners  Shape Set.

Page 9: I used another of the stackable label chipboard pieces and a sticker phrase to create another tag holder. I often cover tags with the printed paper to make photo mats. I frequently have pre-printed tags which I will never use, or often I stamp on a tag and the image is blurry and unusable. I can cover the offending tags with paper and use them, rather than toss them in the trash!

Page 10: And one more pocket. The phrase is from the Art-C Lace Ephemera Collage Kit. That little kit was full of lovely, vintage goodies! All the twine is also from Art-C.

Page 11: Another pocket, decorated with a chipboard dress form. I confess that I had to take some of the ribbon off the large tags as it was making the mini too bulky!

I hope you enjoyed my mini album project! They are fun to make, not so fun to photograph, but they are always worth it! Thanks to Graphic 45, Momenta Art-C, and Gina's Designs for contributing product for this project! What a marriage! I am going to be a guest designer for Gina's Designs in December, so watch for more great projects using the laser chipboard!

I purchased the Art-C tool about a month ago and have yet to use it but I will have to try it out now on this great project. Thanks for sharing. >^..^<

  7. Hi Gloria,

Love this mini but am not sure how to attach each section to make the accordion without scoring. Could you help me out here.

    Thanks,

    Kathy

    1. I am unclear as to what you are struggling with. The step-by-step above explains how to score and attach each page. You cannot make this album without scoring the sections and folding on the score lines. If you are unclear on how to attach the paper to make a strip, you simply glue two panels together (overlap).
