2017 Calendar Folio Series - February

Each month, on the third Sunday of the month, I will release the tutorials for TWO (2) folios! I am a bit late getting to the February Folio! I apologize for that! I hope they are worth the wait! But, at long last, I am releasing the folios for February!
I am using the Graphic 45 collections Place in Time (both the original collection and the new Deluxe Collector's Edition), Time to Flourish, and Children's HourI am using the 12x12, 8x8, and 6x6 pads, plus some of the other items from each collection. I am also using a few sheets of 8x8 and 6x6 from the Mon Amour collectionEverything else is product from my vast hoard of supplies. See the full supply list below.
The February folios consist of one calendar folio (8 1/4" x 8 1/4") and one scrapbook folio (8" x 8"). These folios hold AT LEAST twelve (12) photos. You can customize them for fewer or more photos, or for journaling, or to use as a planner. (If you followed the January tutorial, this one is pretty much the same construction.)

Before getting started, I recommend cutting up ONE EACH of the Cut Apart and Collective sheets from the various paper collections. That way you will have all the images needed, as we will also use the prints on the reverse sides of most papers. (Note: I have used more than 2 sheets of some of the paper, but if you cannot do that, substitute something from your stash that coordinates.) I also recommend the Ephemera card packs, if you can find them.

February Calendar Folio
The February Folio is side-fold folio, measuring 8 1/4" x 8 1/4" when closed. I have added some flowers and sparkly bits to this design, which celebrates love and Valentine's Day. Feel free to change it up to commemorate a birthday or anniversary celebration.
The folio opens up to reveal places for more photos and journlaing.
Cut one sheet of black cardstock to 8 1/4" x 8 1/4". Cut a second sheet of black cardstock to 8 1/4" x 8 3/4". Score the long side at 1/2" to make a second 8 1/4" x 8 1/4" panel. Fold and burnish the score line. Add strong adhesive to the 1/2" tab.
Attach the two sheets together to create a folio that is 8 1/4" tall and 16 1/2" wide. Make sure the fold is on the left-hand side of the folio, so that the folio opens like a book.
Attach the Children's Hour 8x8 February Calendar page to the front of the folio. Use a die cut template to cut a doily from ivory cardstock. Attach the doily to the right side of the calendar page, as shown.
Cut the border strips from Place in Time and Time to Flourish February Cut Apart paper and trim them to 7" long. Attach the border strips to the bottom of the calendar page.

Trim the square image from Time to Flourish February Cut Apart paper and mat with black cardstock. Attach the image to the folio, approximately 2 3/4" from the top edge and 1 1/2" from the right edge.
Cut the February mini calendar image from Children's Hour February Collective paper and attach it to the left side of the page, as shown. Use foam adhesive to attach a sticker from the Place in Time sticker sheet to the mini calendar image.

Cut the flower girl image from Children's Hour February Collective paper and attach it over the main image. Place the "Be Mine" tag from the Time to Flourish Tags and Pockets sheet to the left side of the main image.
Trim the post card tag from Children's Hour February Collective paper and use foam tape to attach it to the lower left corner of the calendar. Glue a Children's Hour chipboard tag to the post card tag. Add a letter charm and a loopy twine bow to the chipboard tag.
Glue a small flower to the top of the twine bow. Tuck postage stamp images cut from the various collections to the top left corner of the post card tag.
Attach metal heart and key charms to the top center of the main image. Add some small flowers. Attach the "Valentine" sentiment, cut from Time to Flourish February Cut Apart paper to the right side of the page.
Use strong glue to attach paper flowers around the bottom and right edges of the main image. Glue pink and white enamel dots to the page, as desired.
Cut ivory cardstock to 8 1/8" x 8 1/8". Attach Time to Flourish 8x8 Calendar paper (reverse, pink print) to the ivory cardstock. Create a photo mat by cutting black cardstock to 6 1/8" x 6 1/8". Attach a sheet of 6" x 6" pink print paper from Time to Flourish 6x6 Patterns and Solids Pad to the black cardstock. Attach the photo mat panel to the center of the page.

Attach a tag from Mon Amour Tags and Pockets to lower left of the photo mat. Place adhesive onto the bottom and left edges of the tag to create a pocket. Use foam tape to attach the sentiment, cut from Time to Flourish February Cut Apart paper, to the pocket.
Use strong adhesive to attach the finished panel to the left side of the Calendar Folio. Fold a Time to Flourish February Ephemera card in half and tuck it into the pocket. (You will need two of these ephemera cards for the project. If you only have one, save it for the February Scrapbook Folio.)
Cut Cut ivory cardstock to 8 1/8" x 8 1/8" and attach the panel to the right side of the Calendar Folio. Attach a sheet of Children's Hour 8x8 February Montage paper (reverse) to the ivory cardstock. Trim Children's Hour February Collective border strips to 8" long and attach them to the top of the panel.

Cut black cardstock to 6 1/8" x 4 1/8" and round all four corners. Mat Children's Hour February Ephemera card with the black cardstock. Attach the card to the right side of the page. Use foam adhesive to attach a postage image from the Place in Time February Cut Apart paper to the upper right corner of the ephemera card. Place the "sweetheart" sticker at the top left of the image (Children's Hour).

Cut a 3" circle from ivory cardstock. Cut slightly smaller circle from dotted paper (Children's Hour 6x6 Patterns and Solids Pad). Attach the circles together and place them on the left side of the page, as shown. Use a die cut template to cut a heart shape from ivory cardstock. Add the shape to the page, as shown.

Cut the "Be Mine" tag from the Place in Time February Cut Apart paper. Tie a loopy bow with a length of ivory twine and add it to the tag. Attach the tag to the bottom left corner of the page.
Close the folio. Cut Children's Hour February Montage paper to 8 1/8" x 8 1/8" and attach to the back panel of the folio.

The calendar folio is finished! Add photos and journaling, as desired.

February Scrapbook Folio
The matching February Scrapbook Folio measures 8" x 8" and is a top-folding folio, decorated inside and out. It is perfect for journaling, ephemera, and photos. Like the calendar folio, this project can be displayed on your desk or shelf during the month of February.
The inside of the folio contains two flaps and a pocket. Everything is decorated in a Valentine's Day theme.

We will construct the base for the folio first, and then decorate it.
Cut one piece of black cardstock to 8" x 8". Cut a second piece of black cardstock to 8 1/2" x 8" and score 1/2" from the top edge. Fold and burnish on the score line. Add double-sided tape to the tab.
Attach the tab to the top of the 8" x 8" piece of cardstock, creating a top-fold folio, 8" x 8". Open the folio. It is 16" tall and 8" wide.
Cut a piece of black cardstock to 6 1/8" x 4 5/8". Score 1/2" from the right edge. Attach the scored tab to the top left panel of the folio. Place the flap 1" from the top edge. The flap will be 6 1/8" x 4 1/8".

Cut a piece of black cardstock to 4 1/8" x 6 5/8". Score in from the left at 1/2". Place the tab onto the right side of the panel, 1/2" down from the top edge. The flap will be 4 1/8" x 6 1/8".

Now, we will create a pocket for the lower panel. Cut black cardstock to 4 5/8" x 9". Score at 1/2" from the right, left, and bottom edges. Add double-sided adhesive to the tabs. (Note: I cut a bit off the ends of the tabs where they meet to decrease the bulk at the bottom edge of the pocket.)
Attach the pocket to the bottom edge of the lower panel.

Close the folio. We will now decorate the front cover.
Cut Children's Hour February Montage (reverse) paper to 7 7/8" x 7 7/8". (This is from the 12" x 12" paper pad.) Attach the paper to the front of the folio.

Cut Time to Flourish February Flourish paper to 7 7/8" x 3 7/8". Mat with black cardstock cut to 8" x 4". Attach this panel to the left side of the folio, approximately 1/2" from the left edge.

Use a heart border punch to punch a strip of ivory cardstock. Trim to 7 7/8" long. Cut Place in Time and Time to Flourish border strips to 7 7/8" long. Affix the heart border to the bottom of the border strips. Place the border at the top edge of the panel.
Select the February ephemera card from the Children's Hour ephemera pack, or trim the image from Children's Hour February Collective paper to 5 7/8" x 3 7/8". Matt the image with red cardstock, cut to 6" x 4". Mat the image panel with ivory cardstock cut to 6 1/8" x 4 1/8". Attach the image to the right side of the folio, approximately 1 1/2" from the top edge and 1/4" from the right edge.

Use die cut templates to cut a small doily shape from ivory cardstock and a large heart shape from red dot paper (Children's Hour 6x6 Patterns and Solids Pad). Attach the shapes to the left side of the folio.

Use foam adhesive to attach the "Valentine" sentiment from the Children's Hour February Collective paper to the left side of the folio. (Please note that my sentiment "migrated" from the position shown above.)
Tie a loopy bow from ivory and red twine and glue it to the top of the heart, as shown. (Note: If you are struggling to tie bows, I suggest investing in a bow making gizmo tool. I use the older version of Bow-It- All to help tie my bows.)

Glue a few red and pink flowers to the top of the twine bow. Add a tiny, metal, heart-shaped lock to the flowers, as shown.

The cover is finished!
Open your folio. We will decorate the top, inside panel and the two flaps next.
Open both flaps so you can work on the top panel. Cut Time to Flourish February Cut Apart (reverse) paper to 7 7/8" x 7 7/8" and attach the paper to the top panel.

Trim the February border from Time to Flourish February Cut Apart paper and attach to the top center of the panel.

Trim the post card tag image from Children's Hour February Collective paper and attach it to the lower right edge of the panel. Make sure to only add adhesive to the right and bottom edges, to form a little pocket. Use a 3/4" circle punch to punch a small image from one of the paper collections. Add the little decoration to the tag as shown. (Note: We have already used this tag for the Calendar Folio. If you do not have a second image, choose one of the other images from your paper collections.)
Let's decorate the left-hand flap. Trim black print paper from Mon Amour 6x6 Patterns and Solids pad to 6" x 4" and attach the panel to the flap. Trim out a postage image from the Place in Time February Cut Apart paper and use foam tape to attach it to the top left corner of the flap. Trim the "February" border from February Collective paper in the Children's Hour 8x8 Pad. Attach the border to the bottom center of the flap.

Attach the February Ephemera card from the Time to Flourish collection to the right-hand flap.
Close the right-hand flap. Trim red print Mon Amour 6x6 Patterns and Solids paper to 6" x 4" attach to the flap. (Note: if you do not have Mon Amour paper, use something from your stash that coordinates.)

Cut out the post card image from Place in Time February Cut Apart paper and mat with black cardstock, cut to approximately 3 3/8" x 5 1/8". Attach the post card image to the center of the panel. Trim a postage image from Time to Flourish January Cut Apart paper and attach it to the upper right corner of the post card image.
Close the left-hand flap. Trim the February image from the Time to Flourish February Cut Apart paper to 6" x 4". Attach the panel to the flap. Trim floral paper from the Place in Time Cut Apart (reverse) paper to 1 1/2" x 3 7/8" and mat with black cardstock cut to 1 5/8" x 4". Use this piece to create a pocket by attaching it to the bottom of the panel. Trim a border from Place in Time February Cut Apart paper and attach it to the top of the pocket.

Trim tags from Time to Flourish and Place in Time February Cut Apart papers, and from Children's Hour February Collective paper and tuck them into the pocket.

Now, let's work on the bottom panel.
Trim Children's Hour February Montage paper to 4 1/2" x 7 7/8" and attach it to the top portion of the panel, tucking the bottom edge into the pocket. Trim Time to Flourish February Flourish (reverse) paper to 4 1/8" x 7 7/8" and attach it to the pocket.

Trim the February title from the Children's Hour 12x12 Calendar Pad to approximately 1 3/4" x 6 1/4" and mat with black cardstock cut slightly larger. Attach the title to the center of the pocket.
Cut a piece of black cardstock to 6" x 7 7/8". Trim Mon Amour Dearest Darling paper (8x8 pad) to 5 7/8" x 7 3/4". Attach the paper to the card.
Flip the card over. Cut Mon Amour signature sheet paper (8x8 pad) to 5 7/8" x 7 3/4" and attach the paper to the card. Tuck the card into the pocket. You may use the card for extra photos or journaling. You may also tuck ephemera or photos into the pocket.

Close the folio and flip it over so that back is facing up with the fold at the top.

Trim Mon Amour True Love (reverse) paper (8x8 pad) to 7 7/8" x 7 7/8" and attach to the back panel. Trim Children's Hour February Collective floral border to 7 7/8" long and attach it to the top of the panel.

Trim the "girl with umbrella" image from the Place in Time February Cut Apart sheet. Place adhesive around the right and bottom edges of the image to form a pocket, and attach it to the lower right corner of the panel.

And, you are FINISHED!
If you missed the January Folios Tutorials, click HERE.
If you wish to make the 9" x 9" x 9" storage box to hold all your monthly folios, click HERE to see that tutorial.

Keep in mind, that during this tutorial series I will be using some product that is retired or hard to find. If you cannot find the product I am using, try to find something similar, or just substitute something from your own hoard of supplies. You may be able to find some of the retired items on Amazon or Ebay, but be prepared to pay a premium. You will also need a stack of 12x12 black and ivory (natural) cardstock.

Come back March 19th to view the MARCH FOLIOS!
