I have created an 8" x 8" scrapbook folder to share with you. This is the perfect item to make for Valentine's Day! It is not a card, and it's not a page layout...it's BOTH! I used the delightfully retro Lovestruck Collection for this project. The ephemera cards in this collection are so funny! I love the one I used on the front of the folder.
The inside of the folder has space for two photos, one that is 4 1/4" x 3 1/4" and the second photo that is 6" x 4". I decided to put blank photo mats to show you where the photos should go, rather than trying to find an appropriate photo in my stash. I had the "place photo here" stamp custom made for just this circumstance.
I adore the mix of red, pink, blue, and soft white in this collection. The retro images are just adorable!
To create this folder, first cut one piece of black cardstock to 8" x 8" inches. Cut a second piece of black cardstock to 8" x 8 3/4". Attach the two piece together to make one panel that is 8" tall and 16 1/4" wide.
Score in from the left edge at 8" and 8 1/4". You will have two 8" x 8" panels with a 1/4" gutter between them.
Cut Lovestruck Four (polka dots) paper to 7 7/8" x 7 7/8" and attach to the right panel (which is the front of the folder). Cut a strip of Lovestruck Four paper to 7 7/8" x 1/8" and attach to the spine. Close the folder so you can work on the front.
Cut Lovestruck Five paper (red plaid) to 4 1/4" x 7 7/8" and attach to the center of the panel, as shown. Use a heart border punch and black cardstock to create a heart border. Trim the border to 7 7/8" long and attach it to the bottom of the plaid panel.
Use a die template to cut a large doily from ivory cardstock (or use a pre-made doily). Place the doily onto the folder, approximately 3/4" from the top edge and 1/2" from the right edge.
Trim one of the images from Lovestruck Eight and mat with black cardstock. Using foam adhesive attach the image to the left side of the folder as shown, overlapping the doily.
Use a die template to cut a heart from Spectrum Tickled Pink One paper. Attach the heart to the right side of the doily.
Attach the "hug me" sticker from the Lovestruck Details cardstock sticker sheet to a scrap of black cardstock. Trim around the edges. Use foam adhesive to attach the sticker to the heart, as shown. Glue ivory twine to a pink button and attach the button as shown.
Use a die cut template or cutting system to cut "love you" from black cardstock. Glue the phrase just above the heart border.
The cover of the folder is finished. I have kept the back cover plain, but you may decorate it if you wish.
Open the folder and begin to work on the inside. First trim Lovestruck Seven (red hearts) paper to 7 7/8" x 7 7/8" and attach to the right panel. Trim another strip to 7 7/8" x 1/8" and attach to the gutter (spine). Cut a third piece to 7 7/8" x 3" and attach to to the left panel, as shown.
Trim Lovestruck Five (red plaid) paper to 7 7/8" x 4" and attach it so that it just overlaps the red hearts paper. Trim Lovestruck Two (multi-colored hearts) paper to 7 7/8" x 1 1/4". Attach it to the left side of the panel, overlapping the red plaid.
Now, let's work on the left page. Use a die template to cut a large doily from Spectrum Tickled Pink Two paper (or use a pre-made doily). Place the doily onto the page, approximately 1/8" from the top edge and 1" from the right side of the page.
Use a die template to trim Lovestruck Four (polka dots) paper into a banner shape. Mat with black cardstock and attach to the page, overlapping the red plaid paper, as shown.
Trim Lovestruck Two (multi-colored hearts) paper to 5" x 7" and round all four corners. Mat with black cardstock. Attach to the page approximately 1 1/4" from the top and 1/2" from the left edge.
Cut a photo mat from ivory cardstock, 4 1/4" x 3 1/4". Mat with black cardstock. Attach the photo mat to the right side of the multi-colored hearts panel.
Fussy cut two images from Lovestruck One paper and attach them to the page with foam tape.
Use punches or die cut templates to cut hearts from Micro Basics Scarlet Red Dots paper. (The paper is solid on one side.) Attach the hearts with foam tape to the bottom right corner of the page.
Tie ivory twine to a small, red button and glue it to the heart stack. Attach the "that's love" sticker to black cardstock and trim. Attach the sticker to the heart stack with foam tape.
The page is finished! Add a photo to the photo mat. Now, let's finish page two!
Trim three strips of Lovestruck paper: Lovestruck Two at 7" x 1", Lovestruck Four at 7 5/8" x 1", and Lovestruck Three at 6 1/2" x 1 1/4". Attach the three strips to the left side of the page, as shown. Make sure to overlap each strip.
Trim Lovestruck Five (red plaid) paper to 3" x 7 7/8" and attach to the page, 3" from the top edge.
Use a die template to cut a large doily from ivory cardstock (or use a pre-made doily). Place the doily onto the page, approximately 2 1/8" from the top edge and 3/4" from the left edge.
Trim Lovestruck Eight (reverse, red crosshatch) paper to 7" x 5" and round all four corners. Mat with black cardstock. Attach to the page approximately 1/2" from the top and 1/4" from the right edge.
Cut a photo mat from ivory cardstock, 6" x 4". Mat with black cardstock. Attach the photo mat to the center of the red crosshatch panel.
Attach the red "February 14" sticker to the page, as shown. Fussy cut two images from Lovestruck One paper and attach them to the page with foam tape.
Attach two banner stickers to black cardstock and trim. Glue one of the banners to the hand of each of the images to look as if the children are holding the banners. Add a photo.
I hope you enjoyed making this cute scrapbook folder! Thank you so much for looking!

ReplyDeleteWhat a fun - and really good looking! - card. Love the way you've combined the papers to get a really balanced and fanciful retro mid-20th century feeling. I don't usually really like pastry doilies in layouts, but these are so perfect I can't imagine the cards without them. You have such a marvelous eye for what's right! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGloria, as always, a wonderful inspiration!! Love the retro images, and your artwork is delightful!
